Anyone spray tanning while pregnant?

Is it safe to do the versaspa, since it's not a 'booth'?

Re: Anyone spray tanning while pregnant?

  • I'm anxious to see what people say, because I have been wondering about this too.  Just out of curiousity, why can't you do the booth spray tans?

  • Versaspa is very similar to the booth.

I would probably get one done (by a technician) if not on bed rest. We do them at the day spa I work at and I've sprayed many pregnant girls. Some places will do it, some won't as a liability. More of a "if something unfortunate were to happen they don't want the blame placed on them" type of thing. DHA is made from sugars so it's fine. I find that when they are done with a gun and the room has a vent it isnt as foggy so less gets in the nose/mouth and that can it can be better avoided.

  • I got a spray tan just before my shower, my dr said it was fine as long as it wasnt in a booth where I was stuck breathing in all the chemicals. I just made sure to turn my head when she was doing my sholders & such. I was pleased untill about a week later when I looked at my belly & could see how much I had gtown that week bc the tan had cracked all over lol. Thankfully no one sees my tummy!!

  • I've gotten three in the past two months. Call whatever place youre looking at and ask some questions regarding the chemicals they use- is it organic (my place is), do they have a ventalation system, do they even spray pregnant women?

I love getting them done, it makes me feel like I'm actually glowing, and I'm not just a big pregnant blob.  Go for it!

  • I dont want to be rude, but Im the type of person that thinks "if you wouldnt put it on your baby's skin, then dont put it on yours" Whatever is in spray tan and anything else will absorb into your body and end up in or on your baby. When people ask about having a glass of wine while pregnant it makes me think "would you put wine in your baby's bottle?" Not trying to be a debbie downer, but its jsut something to think about. I need a tan as well, but I believe its safer to jsut be pale for the remainder of this pregnancy.

  • i have been spray tanning for the last 3 months, about once a week. i wear a nose plug and hold my breath. it's not that hard, and mine is organic also so even if i breathed it in in, not that harmful.  it makes me feel pretty, which right now i consider important!
  • Do some research and follow your gut. When I was pregnant with my first, I wouldn't even wear perfume or scented body lotion. I was so overboard careful that I forgot who I was and that it was ok to take care of me too. Your baby is in a very safe place and the chances of her/him being affected my something you are putting on your skin is small. Its the fumes you need to worry about. What about a topical tanner? Christian Diors bronzing lotion is awesome, just another idea!
  • I know that the Mystic tan is safe... not sure of other systems.
  • My doctor says Versa is 100% safe. Make sure you are in a well ventalated room and that you dont breath through your mouth while its spraying. Other then that the spray they use is not harmful at all!
