XP: How did you find your nanny?

Hi Ladies,

I have had DS at an inhome daycare 2days/week this year. I have another LO due in June and would prefer to have a nanny at my own home starting September ( I have early starts and the idea of getting 2 LOs off to daycare in the morning before work sounds like too much for me!).

How did you find your nanny?

Also, I am a teacher so I won't need them to start until September 1. Is it too soon to start looking?

 TIA!

  • I just started looking for a nanny and am using care.com.  I put a job posting up on Saturday night and I already have over 20 messages.  I'm going to start interviewing this week.  It only cost $35 for one month's access.  I am very excited about the quality and experience of the candidates.  You can even check backgrounds and references.

  • Hi. I actually do not have a nanny but I was a nanny. Tuesday was actually my last day. :(   I was found on care.com and that is also where my friend (who is an amazing nanny too) was found! There are tons of people on there but you will be able to post the needs for your family and sift through profiles of nannies to pick ones you would like to interview, you can also have extensive background checks done. There is a fee (i do not know what it is) but I think that a small fee is nothing compared to making sure you get the best care for your children!

  • I only work part time and just needed someone on Mondays and Tuesdays and my 1 Friday a month I am on call.  I lucked out and my friend's mother was a professional nanny and then retired and was wanting some part time work to make some extra money.  I have two friends that are doing a nanny share that they found on a website called nannytlc or something like that and they were really happy with the nanny that they found.  Good luck!  Finding someone that you trust with your children is a huge undertaking!!
  • Can you advertise in your university's paper?

Perhaps you can find someone that goes to school at night and is looking for work during the day?

I found my first job as a nanny through a University paper and it worked out really well. :)

  • I would contact any local small colleges in your area. They usually have a place where they can post all sorts of jobs.
