Not eating well in AM- maybe teething?

So, Ruby has historically been a voracious eater.  Not this weekend.  She has been distracted while nursing for the last few weeks, but this weekend it seemed like she was not interested in eating, specifically in the morning.  Both Saturday and Sunday morning, we got up, I nursed her, and she didn't seem like she was doing/eating much.  DH offered her formula afterwards, and she didn't take too much of it.  Then we put her down at her regular naptime (9 am) and she cried a LOT more than usual, and we finally figured out she was hungry, so we fed her expressed BM and then she went to sleep.  And she seemed to eat pretty well the rest of the day.  Same thing on Sunday.  So this morning before I went to work, I tried having her nurse, but she really wasn't doing anything so I just pumped and gave it to DH and he fed her from the bottle.

Do y'all think this is maybe teething?  I remember hearing other people post that their babies seemed uninterested in eating while teething.  This is just odd as she only seems uninterested in the morning, and seems to go back to her regular hungry self in the afternoon.

Re: Not eating well in AM- maybe teething?

  • It could be.  V did not want to eat much at all when she was teething but she also caught a cold at the same time, so part of it was not feeling well with that, too.  Are you still using the size 1 nipples on her bottle?  I was just wondering if maybe she was getting the milk faster out of the bottles and decided she liked that better than having to work for her milk when nursing.

V had two little bubble-looking things on her bottom gum where her teeth were coming in.  If you can, check out your DD's gums tonight and see how they look.

  • Thanks!  I believe we are still using the size 1 nipples, but I did buy a new set of bottles in the last month (larger ones) that may have a larger size nipple.  I'll check that and her gums when I get home.

  • Last week A started not eating well at daycare and she was later found to have an ear infection. No fever or cold symptoms just poor appetite and more fussy than usual. I was pretty surprised by the EI diagnosis!
