I was looking for one of the threads where this was discussed, but I couldn't find any.
I really want to use this service, but they don't deliver in my area. I was thinking of just having them deliver to my mom's house, or my husband's office.
We get produce every week. We get a lot of fruit and then I usually get the same vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, zucchini, squash, mushrooms and maybe something like carrots or celery).
Will the small bin, I think it's $35, give me enough stuff for the week (I really want to do bi-weekly if I could stretch it out)?
I saw that you can customize your bin, so I know I can switch certain items out for others. Is it worth it?
TIA!
Re: Green Bean Delivery (sorry, I know this has been discussed before)
I had it delivered to my office and i had nothing but issues with it. It turned into a larger hassle than I wanted. They were never on time which forced me to wait at the office until 6pm sometimes waiting for my delivery. Awful. I tried to address it with the company informing them that I needed a delivery before 4pm when I left and it never worked out. They promised it would be there, but they fell through.
Also, I had a late in the week delivery (friday) and noticed that the produce wasn't lasting as long as I would have liked. It wasn't as fresh and almost had to be used within 2 days of getting the items.
I wasn't happy with the service and wound up canceling. I can get organic produce for the same price at Krogers which is fresh and lasts a longer time.
I do miss receiving the meats as I really enjoyed those. Oh well.

Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
I have to say that the time of delivery really varies - our delivery comes on Friday and sometimes it comes in the afternoon and sometimes not until the early evening. It would probably be better to have it delivered to your mother's house so that your DH doesn't have to wait around at the office.
However, I've never had issues with the produce not lasting as long as it should. It's always been really fresh. If it's something like strawberries, you have to eat those quickly regardless of where you buy them - same with fresh herbs and lettuce. Things like potatoes, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, brussel sprouts, apples, oranges, onions, winter squash etc last a lot longer. I've only had a couple issues with the quality of the vegetables and both times the problem was resolved with no hassle. Just get a good mix and you'll be good for 2 weeks.
We got it delivered 3-4 before we cancelled. I just wasn't happy with the produce that I received. Everything was really ripe and needed to be eaten within 2-3 days or it went bad. When I go to the store to buy produce I try to buy a few items that are ready to eat and a few items that will be ripe enough to eat in a few days. That wasn't the case with the produce that I received. While it was good quality it just didn't make sense for our family.
When I called to cancel they wanted a reason why so I explained the issue to them. Apparently that is a very common reason that they receive cancellations.
This, although I can't speak for delivery times as Thursday was our first delivery. Additionally, supporting local farms (as much as possible) is more important to me than comparing the cost of produce between Green BEAN vs. a mega-chain, like Kroger. Of course a delivery service is going to cost a bit more, as their operating costs are going to be a bit higher and they are delivering the product TO you.
They are going to be one of the vendors at thinkGREEN this year if you want to speak with them personally. Also, it is a great event at Marvin's Organic Gardens

This. We're starting ours back up after taking the winter season off, and we had them pretty much since they started operating here. We never had any problems.

Sorry, I never really answered your questions. We signed up for the small bin, every other week. We just received our first delivery on Thursday. Here's a summary of our order (I can't remember what was "standard" vs. what I subbed out):
4 Each - Apples, Gala
1 One - Pound Carrots, Bunched
1 .75 oz - Fresh Basil
1 Each - Lettuce, Green Leaf
1 9-12oz. - Mushrooms, Portobello
1 Each - Onions, Red ('Twas the biggest red onion I've ever seen in my entire life!)
4 Each - Oranges, Cara Cara
1 24 oz - Russian Banana Fingerling Potatoes
1 8 oz - Salad Mix Greens
1 Pint - Tomatoes, Cherry
1 Two Pounds - Yams, Garnett
It definitely won't last us two weeks, but it gives us a good start, and it helps make my weekly grocery (Whole Foods AND Kroger) trips much shorter and more focused. HTH!
