If you have room for it installed, why not install it? I'm def of the 'better safe than sorry' camp...
A friend recently told me, 'ya know, they allow you time to do all that at the hospital'.. mocking me for installing it and THEN having the police dept check it. WHY would you not do something you can just DO, weeks/months in advance??! no sense, to me.
Voting better be safe than sorry. But then again I have not be able to travel beyond the 2 hour mark since 32 weeks. My doctor is on the better be safe than sorry boat too.
not to scare you - but my friend went on a small road trip at 34ish weeks. and they decided to "just throw it in there". good thing she did - - cause she went into labor on the weekend get-a-way - and delivered at a hospital there!

I just got back from a 5 hour car trip to Sarasota (just hit 35 weeks today) and we decided not to bring the car seat. We figured that if he came while we were there that he would most likely have to stay due to being born early so we wouldn't need it for a few days and DH could drive home and get it.
Before leaving for my trip I did have an appointment with my midwife who did a travel check, just to make sure that I wasn't dialated or anything. I also got a copy of all my records just in case I needed them.

I just got back from a week vacation at the beach a 5 hour trip. Packing the extra carseat never even crossed my mind. I am in the nah do not bring it.
I'm traveling four hours for my baby shower next weekend, and we're installing the car seat before we leave. I wouldn't want to worry about getting the car seat from home if I did go into labor (at 36 weeks).
