getting ahead of myself?

BIL is getting married late August and I already bought my dress. I decided to get this in my regular size and then later decided to get the another one size up to see which one I might fit in later. I can't help but get scared sometimes that I won't be able to get back to my pre-PG size ever again :(

anyone else have an event to dress for soon after delivery? bought your dress? what cuts are you going for to hide the dreaded post-baby belly?

Re: getting ahead of myself?

  • I haven't gained much so I expect to get close to pre pregnancy size fairly soon (Fingers crossed!). Now jeans or pants...that's a different story but as far as a dress or shirts I would get pre pregnancy size since those always have some give. I think I would just avoid stuff that's really fitted on the belly area. Maybe go with a print that has black/brown in it since it's slimming and the print can distract from a remaining pooch..Two months gives you some time. Plus I have heard BF'ing helps, if that's part of your plan.

  • I gained a lot with DD (50 lbs, yikes!) but lost it really fast and was back to pp size very quickly somehow.  Breastfeeding?

Honestly, for me the worst part was the extra skin that hung around for awhile.  I wore Spanx every single day and that totally put me back in my pp size quickly.  I think wearing empire-waisted or baby-doll style dresses will be best to hide the post partum "pooch", but definitely invest in some good Spanx to wear underneath.

  • With DD i did get back to my pre-pregnancy size. But not in 2 months. Tongue Tied

I like the dress you've picked. I think as long as your bust hasn't grown alot then i don't see why your pre=pregnancy size wouldn't fit. It looks as if it's supposed to be loose and flowy.

I have a wedding at the end of May. (ha ha ha ha) and another at the end of September. No idea what i am wearing to either.

  • lovely dress!  now i want one too!

it might be a little snug in the ribs in august, since it takes awhile for the rib cage (and hips) to go back to pre-pregnancy dimensions, so your plan of getting one size up as well as your usual size should cover you in case your ribs are still wider than usual.

my main concern is that it looks like it would be difficult to breastfeed in that dress without basically stripping to the waist.

  • Since it is so flowy and only tight around the bust area, you should be fine I would think... I have gained about 15 lbs and still wear my pre-preg maxi dresses and my springy wrap dresses for school that I had long before I was pregnant ..they still fit just fine..

  • First of all, that dress is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

We have a wedding a few weeks after my due date so I'll be wearing a maternity dress still :(.  That is if I even go - it's all up in the air considering I don't know when little dude will be born, and the wedding requires travel...

Thankfully I've been pretty lucky and haven't gained much weight so hopefully I won't have too hard of a time working it off.  My plan is to walk on the treadmill A LOT during maternity leave, and once it cools off just start taking LO for walks but who knows what will happen in the end!

  • ugh. DH's cousin is getting married in late July at the zoo. DH's family expects us to be there given that everything works out well and we are all healthy. I weigh about 145 lbs right now and I'm only 5'3" and I know a month will not be enough time to drop the weight. I was thinking about renting an outfit from renttherunway.com. I've never rented a dress, but I figured I was going to end up buying a dress in a bigger size and then never wearing it again because it wouldn't fit anymore. Hopefully this works out. GL

  • I am taking a childbirthing class centered on Mindfulness and our instructor keeps reminding us we can apply this to other aspects of our life too.  She would say that by buying that dress and saying to yourself "I am buying this for BIL's wedding" that you are more likely to lose the weight than if you waited and said "well, I'll see if I lose the weight."

If in the end it doesn't fit or look nice, you can keep it for the next special occasion, but I think having the goal in mind of fitting into it will be motivating.  Also if you are BFing that should help too.

This is my concern! Pre-PG I was a 32B now a 34C-D and I haven't even started BF! My friend scares me. She said they only get bigger from now on! Not a fan of big boobs at all! Gahhh!  I am going to give full-time breastfeeding a go but honestly am not counting on it for weight loss. I plan to workout as well as soon as I am clear to go.

I've gained 24lbs so far and can get away with keeping at least 5 lbs postpartum since I was underweight pre-PG but my weight gain now is most noticeable on the chest area and of course the belly. I of course notice my arms, thighs, and hips are definitely bigger but other people don't think I've gained there.

If you're going in May, there's also a lot of cute maternity dresses on ASOS.com if you check out the website. GL to you!
