nursing from only one side at one week old?

Is this normal?  For LO to nurse on only one side before being done, even at this early?

I did BF DD1 - for 12 months.  But we had a rocky start - she wasn't really efficient (at all) and I had to pump after every feeding in order to supplement to make sure she gained weight, for the first couple of weeks.  Nursing her took a long time, on each breast at each feeding.

So far, DD2 seems to eat quickly before rejecting the breast and falling asleep.  Often she will only nurse on one side and will be all set for another two hours before showing any hunger cues.  Am I over thinking this?  I do plan to ask her pedi at tomorrow's one-week visit (and hoping that her weight gain is on track, since DD1 had so much trouble gaining in the beginning I am nervous this time around), just looking for others' responses in the meantime.

  • My LC said it was fine since I produce a lot of milk.... I was severely enforced when my milk came in. We.go.in Friday for LOs 2 week check up and I plan on asking her when to started switching. You could just be lucky like me and have enough milk that LO sucks down.
