First appointment

I'm pretty sure this has been asked something near four dozen times, but I can't find it. Mainly 'cause I have a migraine, and partly because I don't know how to search the board.

Anyway!

I'm a ADFM and just had my IUD taken out. We're TTC as soon as the docs give us the go-ahead. Probably next month. So what can I look forward to, once I get that BFP (whenever it decides to happen)? I heard the first appointment is nearly purposeless, just a blood and urine test to confirm, and discussions about my last AF and health issues. Anything else? Someone said she had an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy even though she was only 2-6 weeks, anyone else? Anything else I should expect or questions to be prepared to answer?

Re: First appointment

  • I've always been seen at MTF. Normally, they schedule an ultrasound between 8-10 weeks for dating. Then you will likely have an orientation where you will fill out paperwork and have labs done. Around 11-12 weeks, you will have your first prenatal appointment where you go over your history, labs, and have a pap done. Care varies greatly between bases, but this was my experience at three bases. If you see a civilian, it will also vary. If you are Prime, so bases require you to confirm the pregnancy first before you can make an appointment on base, and others allow you to call OB right away with a BFP with a HPT.

  • I'm on Standard...my first appointment was the paperwork, laps and talking to the doc about history. Mine was particularly interested in determining whether or not i was depressed... but pretty much if you feel the doc should know something let her/him know. Any extra info can always be helpful

  • Thanks to both of you! I'm currently Prime at USAF MTF, and the way they do things here is weird. For instance, when I made an appointment to get my IUD taken out, they had me make an appointment with the Women's Clinic, even though I'd had it put in at another MTF by my PCM. When I called the Women's Clinic, they were confused because I didn't have a referral, but the Family Clinic said I didn't need one. Anyway, typical bureaucratic confusion.

So now that I'm already at the Women's Clinic, I'm kind of curious how that works once I pee on a stick and get that BFP. I guess I'll find out.
