Today was DS first day eating rice cereal but I am wondering if I prepared it incorrectly. The box said 1 tbsp of rice cereal to 4 tbsp of milk. Mixing it like this resulted in a consistency very similar to breast milk. In a lot of the pics I see people here post of their LOs first solid meal looks much thicker. I even tried to thicken it up by adding a bit more rice cereal but it was still very thin. Did I do something wrong?
DS took to being spoon fed very well he just got tired of getting so little food at once since he was hungry. I am thinking of trying oatmeal instead tomorrow. IDK. What was your experience?
Re: Did I Do Something Wrong - Rice Cereal?
Breast milk has an enzyme in it that breaks down rice cereal. Same thing happened to me.
Do single-grain oatmeal instead
Ohhh. I had no idea about that. I was wondering why no matter how much rice cereal I added it never thickened. Oatmeal it is! Thank you.
Yeah a friend of mine volunteered that info to me the next day after seeing video on FB.
I was thankful!
I wouldn't start oatmeal tomorrow, what if LO has a reaction? You won't know which food it is to. I'd wait at least a couple days.
