Hi all- My husband and I are expecting our little one in December and we live in the Katy area. I'm wondering how early people started looking for daycare? I'm planning to stay home for 3 months, but I know that some places can have a year or more wait. Any thoughts on timing/daycare recommendations from those in the area?
BFP #1- 4/2011; DD Brynn born 12/2011
BFP #2- 7/13; EDD- 4/2/14; Lost DS at 20 weeks (11/16/13) due to cord accident

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.
Re: How early did you look into daycare? Katy area suggestions?
no suggestions for the area, but we started looking when i was about 6 months pg. our #1 choice had a wait list that went about 1 month after i was planning to return to work.
they pushed it back another month, but we found an in home center that we used for a few months near my work.
I started looking around 4 months and signed up with our first choice at 5 months. Good thing too since their wait list was up to mid June which is about when I returned from maternity leave.
We aren't in Katy but we chose Primrose as well. I decided to stay home after about 2 months but we were very happy with them for those two months. Most of our neighbors used or are using them as well and are all very happy with them.
My friends in Katy had Primrose on their list but went with another place because of the wait list at Primrose. They're very happy with the place but I can't remember the name...
I am not sure where you are located in Katy but my 5 month old has been going to Kids R Kids on Franz Road. We love the staff and have been really impressed so far. They work on sign language, do art projects (basically bis hand or foot print on paper), and they send me their weekly schedule every monday so that I know what he will be doing that week. Every baby has their own crib and mobile and you can put family pictures on the outside of the crib so that they can see mommy and daddy while they are there. Everything is clearly labeled and each baby has their own spot for everything, in the fridge for food/bottles, cabinets, etc. There are also 2 video camera's in the room so that you can log on and see the baby while you are at work, (it a secure website and you have to actually call to speak to the director to be setup with a username/password).
My 5 year old went to a Kindercare on Fry when he was an infant, they were okay however it was not anything like this. They basically just sent home a sheet telling me when he had eaten and if he needed any diapers, etc. I want to say they shared cribs, but I could be wrong.
I would start calling at around 12 weeks, just so that you have plenty of time to pick the place that you like and that a spot is available for the time that you need it. Good Luck!
We are 18 weeks and have been on the list for about 6 weeks. I hear good things about Kids R Kids. We're going with Goddard in Sugar Land for the first 6 months since it's close to work, then the Children's Lighthouse since it's close to our home. Use this website for searcing TX daycare centers to see their health grades, incidents, etc.

Hope that helps!!
