Projectile vomit vs spitting up

Can someone describe the difference? Tia

In my experience, vomiting is explosive and there is a lot of puke that comes out. You can also feel their body retch and get stiff. Spit up is more calm and there can be a lot but it's not accompanied with the heaving of throwing up. Sometimes I don't even hear that she spit up, I just find it on my shirt. I KNOW when she vomits.

ohmygosh, you would totally know the difference between the two.  my 1st baby had projectile and let me tell you, it looks like the movie the exorsism with linda blair:) when she vomits!  it's a lot more than spit up and much more forcefull. spit up just sort of oozes out of their mouth, doesn't shoot out like a fire hydrant!

If your baby suddenly seems to be throwing up with extreme force-there is a medical problem called pyloric stenosis that shows up when babies are about 3-5 weeks old- so call your Dr. if you are worried about it.

I think when you get a projectile vomit all over you or your couch, bed etc, YOU KNOW the difference. Spit up doesn't require an immediate shower

i asked the dr. this and they said that it's hard to tell the difference sometimes. i find that usually it smells like vomit. unfortunately our lo has really bad reflux and he has forceful spit up. so i would say smell it!
