Clicky Poll: High Efficiency Washer and Dryer, would it make a difference?

We are looking to sell our house probably within the next year. Our current washer and dryer have crapped out and we need to replace. In our area it is pretty typical to sell all appliances with the house. Our home would be more of an upper end "starter" home.

We are trying to decide whether we should purchase a middle of the road front loading washer/dryer set or a top loading, NOT high efficiency (ie. Cheaper) washer/dryer set.

DH is leaning one way, I am leaning another.

SO, as a potential buyer looking at a house would it make a difference to you either way?

Re: Clicky Poll: High Efficiency Washer and Dryer, would it make a difference?

  • It sure would be a nice bonus if a house that I liked just happened to have a new HE front loader, but ultimately I'm going to choose the house that's best for us- not just the house with the sweet new washer, you know? So in the long run, it really wouldn't factor much in my decision at all.
  • I'm not actually a fan of front loading washers. I just got a HE top loader that I am very happy with.

Either way, the w/d would be new, so it wouldn't make a difference in which house I chose. I'd pick the house that was best for us and sell the w/d if I hated it.

  • I might go middle of the road...something of decent quality, but not the highest end available.
  • I chose that I wouldn't care, but to clarify a bit, I wouldn't care as long it was a decent quality washer/dryer.  We recently got a HE set and I really do love them, but if I really loved a house, I wouldn't not go for it because of the washer/dryer not being exactly what I wanted.

  • I wouldn't care if it were front loading our top loading but more how big it was.  My sister has a really nice front loading HE washer but it is sooooo TINY!  I hate doing laundry at her house.

This is where I am at....sure it would be a nice feature but would not necessarily "sell" me on a house. I think the new windows/septic/roof would sway me more than a washer/dryer set.

  • I think it really depends on the market, specifically in your neighborhood. In some neighborhoods, it really may be a selling point. Countertops, cabinets, kitchen appliances, flooring may all be somewhat equal. Floor plans may all be similar. This is probably a question for your realtor who is familiar with comparables in your neighborhood.
