Looking for recommendations for a camera and video camera that are compact enough that I can keep both in my diaper bag. First time expecting mom and don't want to miss anything.
Flip is good video camera. Not sure if they have HD & standard format, but I wish I had standard IF they make that. The HD is too panaramic & I feel it cuts off alot. I can't give you recommendation on camera because I don't like my point & shoot Good luck.

I have the Kodak Zi8 pocket sized video camera and I've been pretty happy with it. It's basically the Kodak version of the Flip. My only complaints is the vids taken in low light are a little grainy and it doesn't do well with extreme close-ups. Otherwise, it's portable and takes pretty good HD movies for a pocket camera.

I have a flip and love it. It's so small, when I'm out I can even put it in my back pocket to keep handy. The video is very good and it's easy to upload to the computer. The flipshare software makes it very easy to share.
I've had a couple Flips and love their convenience. I just got the newest HD one a couple weeks ago. It is small and very compact and super easy to use. It maintains a charge for a long period of time.
I love my Nikon D90 and I do keep it in my diaper bag or purse with a small 50mm lens and no external flash. To me it is worth keeping a few less items to make room for it. We also have a Nikon Cool Pix that we like and will take when I want a true pocket camera. It has little delay compared to some of the other point and shoots.
We had a Lumix in the past a I do recommend their products.
I agree with PP that even though it is easy to pull out your phone to shoot pics, the quality is definitely not the same!

We upgraded to a Canon Rebel T2i a few months ago. Our point n' shoot, though of excellent quality, had such a shutter lag that we were missing tender moments hand-over-fist. The current camera is not small, but so totally worth it to capture the fleeting moments of a very, very busy toddler. Worth consideration...
for real high def I like the sony handycams. they bring a video quality you just can't get from flip. i actually work in the industry so feel free to pm for more details.

I have the Flip HD and I LOVE it! It's so easy to use! I also have a little Canon Elf for a regular camera.
FYI: Take most of your pictures of LO with a decent digital camera versus your phone camera. They are so much better and you'll be glad that you did.
