Re: constipation
I just went through this. I started taking Metimucile(sp?) and it did nothing! So I asked my OB and she said I could take Milk of Magnesia. This has seemed to help.
Sorry to say, but it didn't stop till after I had my first BM after having DS. I was TERRIFIED of going #2 after DS(I had an episiotomy) that I am sure I "held" it in longer then I should have.
I've been really lucky the only time I was constipated was early this pregnancy when I was taking Zofran and as a vegetarian had an aversion to vegetable and fibrous stuff!
But since MS subsided I'm back to eating lots of fruits and veggies and haven't had any issues with it since then.
I was completely constipated last week... then I sat down to watch America's next top model and pounded back a ton of blueberries.
... it worked.
OMG - isn't it terrible? I had this for about 4 months and despite my best efforts nothing seemed to work. Since my 3rd Tri things seem to be a bit better but I am still scared it is going to return! Sorry I am not much help to you!!
I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast. Not the box stuff-- the kind you cook on the stove. Keeps me very regular.
It's also great for your breastmilk supply, if you're planning to BF little one in the future.
It won't end for a while. I hear the first poop after delivery is the absolute worst. I had to start taking stool softeners daily a while ago and highly recommend doing toe same if you are have giant, painful poos. I freaking love that this is appropriate conversation for pregnant chicks... the crap (literally) that nobody has the balls to talk about IRL.
Best of luck.
One word ----- COLACE.
Helped me for a long time after a nightmare situation with constipation in first tri. Now I'm really regular but when I wasn't, colace fixed me completely!
I went from super-regular to super-constipated as soon as I started taking my prenatals. I just switched docs and my new doc switched me to PreferaOB (i think that's the name...)- it has a more absorbable iron. Problem solved! Ask about it.
In the meantime, I switched up my diet a little to ensure I got 15-20g fiber at breakfast every day (really not that hard - buy double fiber bread and have 2 slices of toast with a piece of fruit). I also became addicted to Benefiber.
Good luck!
I try to make sure I keep my fruit and veggie intake high, drink lots of water, and have a dose of Miralax if I feel like things are getting too backed up. I have a problem with fissures, so I try not to wait too long before doing something to move things along.
I had surgery on my butt a few years ago, and let me tell you, that first poo was scary. But honestly it didn't hurt at all - I was careful to take lots of stool softeners after the surgery, plus eat almost nothing but veggies and lots of fluids, and things moved along with almost no pain. If you're worried about that first poo, be mindful of what you eat after labor and that should help.
Been away from theBump for a while, getting active again for all the good advice
