I am assuming that I should use the "extra water" setting on my new HE washer as well as the extra rinse. Should I also go for the prewash and a second extra rinse? Heavy soil setting? Any tips are appreciated! Cloth diapering starts tomorrow and I'm so excited!

Re: Which of my fancy washer options do I need?
I have a non-fancy washer:) I do a speed wash without detergent as my pre-wash. This way I can choose the temp. I do a heavy soil wash on hot with detergent with an extra rinse and then finish with one more speed wash on warm without detergent. I don't have the xtra water feature, but am convinced I'd be able to skip at least one of these steps if I had it. I have extremely hard water and have had some stink issues in the past when I decrease my routine:( It might take you a little while to figure out what you need to get everything clean. At a minimum you need a pre-rinse (or pre-wash), hot wash and extra rinse.
Good luck and have fun!
I don't have much experience yet beyond prepping my diapers, but from what I've read here so far....
Definitely use the extra water feature if it's a front loader, since those tend not to clean as thoroughly with less water. A prewash or prerinse is always recommended- it's pretty much 50/50 with girls who do this with detergent, or just rinse with water. This is done with cold water usually. Then hot wash. I don't think you need a second extra rinse at the end- that would be three rinses total right? I think two is standard.
But like pp said, it might take you a couple times to figure out the best routine for your washer/water type/etc. Yay that your washer has all these settings included though- that's really nice.
Do you have an LG? It sounds like it from the description. After a lot of trial and error this is what I've found works best.
Quick wash on cold/cold w/extra water (water only)
Normal wash on hot/cold w/extra water and extra rinse (detergent)
I tried to just do the normal wash and add a pre-wash but it didn't work as well.
