booster seat ?

DS is riding home tomorrow with a friend and she has an extra booster...I told her that was fine, but since I'm a mommy/car seat freak am now wondering if I should bring his booster along just in case her extra one isn't a high back one...or am I being a neurotic freak?  (he only has a booster for DH's truck and he'll be in a 5-pt harness for a few more years in mine)

How old is he and when he's sitting in a regular booster(just bottom half) does the seat belt sit appropriately on his shoulder?
