NSTs?

I'm going to be starting non-stress tests twice a week to make sure the babies are both doing well.  I think I can still tell which one is which for my kick counts, but it's going to get harder as they continue to grow.

Has anyone had these before?  I've been reading about them but would love to hear some personal experiences!

    No personal experience yet, but I think I'm going to have to start having them weekly too.

    I have a dr's appt tomorrow to discuss starting medication or insulin for my GD. Once I start medication, I'll have to get NSTs weekly.

    I'm pretty sure I've seen posts on the high risk board about it...but hadn't read them since it wasn't relevant to me until now. I'm going to have to read up too.

    Good luck!

  • I had one with my daughter. I was hooked up to a fetal monitor and a monitor for contractions.  I was monitored for about 3 hours but that was only because i was in a car accident and delivering the next day via scheduled c-section.

  • I started my weekly NSTs on Tuesday due to BP issues. They hook you up to a fetal monitor and a monitor to check for contractions then give you a button to push everytime  you feel the baby move. I stayed attached to the monitor an hour but from what I am hearing from other "bumpies" it is usually 30 minutes that you will stay attached. I guess you can say that it gives you an idea of what to expect when labor actually begins.

  • I had one two days ago.

    They basically put the belts around you and you just lay there. They look for fluctuations in LO's HR with the movements. Finleys was all over the charts going up. It's cute because you can hear them moving and bumping the sensor things. DH was was surprised how much she was flopping around in there. I know she was showing off for everyone! She didn't seem to like the belt or something even though I know she probably couldn't feel it. The one I did also monitors contractions. I had 2 BH's when I was on it (for 30 minutes) caused by all her moving. Oops.

    My Dr was making sure that her HR wasn't dropping a bunch from the CRX also.

  • i had preterm labor with ds2 and i had to go in 2 or 3 times a week through the remainder of my preg with him

    for me they did an ultrasound of him first, which was nice seeing him so much in there :)

    then put on the baby heart monitoring equipment, and the contraction monitoring equipment... mine lasted an hour. i was working, so i would go on my lunch time, and usually take a nap while being monitored Stick out tongue

    it's really no big deal at all if you're not having any major issues... just basic monitoring

    NST=NBD!

  • There are two monitors that are strapped to you with something similar to an ace bandage. I guess you would have three monitors since you are having twins..One monitors for contractions and the other two monitors the babies heart rates. I believe the NST lasts 20 minutes. As long as baby cooperates you are in and out in no time. My LO hates to be monitored and in order to get 20 minutes of heart rate acceleration/deceleration, I would spend about an hour on the machine....

    They use the same gel as the use for an ultrasound too. I miss my daily monitoring of LO.

  • Thanks ladies!  This sounds similar to the monitoring I had when I was in the hospital last month.  If it goes like that did, Baby A will be very cooperative and her brother will be very squirmy and won't want to stay on the monitor.   Wonder if their personalities will reflect that..... :)
