material for cloth wipes?

Now that we are fully embracing CD, I would like to use cloth wipes, too.  Should I just get some inexpensive baby washcloths?  Cut up a piece of flannel?  What material works best?

TIA!

Re: material for cloth wipes?

  • I did flannel and terry cloth...one side flannel and the other terry cloth.

For 15 dollars I made about 50 wipes.

  • I just did inexpensive baby washcloths. They work great. Otherwise I think flannel or a very thin terry cloth would work. I just am too lazy to sew them.

  • Initially I got flannel and just cut it up. After I've washed it a few times it seems kind of rough on DS's bum when I wipe him. I'd rather have something softer -- I know you can get a pack of 6 circo baby washcloths at Target for like $2 or $3. I got some of those and like using them soo much more. Also, Walmart has 4 for $0.97.
  • You can get some baby washcloths if you don't sew/have someone to sew for you. They will work fine and you can find different textures of that terry they are made of.

I made my own. Some are flannel/flannel layers and some are flannel/fleece layers. I think those will be fine before the baby is on solids, as I will be bfing and the poo is so liquidy.

I will do some flannel/terry ones once we need a little more strength behind them :)

  • The pp lily225 is my IRL friend and she made me a bunch of flannel/terry cloths.  I love them and they work great.  I can usually get my with using just one.

  • I bought large terry face cloths, cut them in half, and then rolled/ sewed the exposed edge. They're soft and were super inexpensive at Target.
