This is becoming a pretty big issue. To top it off daycare has told me DS is supposed to move up to the next class, but he HAS to wear shoes all day. He has just learned how to walk. We have tried velcro shoes, doesn't work, neither does double knotting his laces. It is a battle trying to put shoes on him. He screams and flings himself all over. Once I do get the shoes on he is smart enough to rub his feet together and since the soles of the shoes are rubberlike he will manage to eventually kick them off. Sometimes he has them off within 5 minutes, sometimes its an hour. Oh, he is also still the serial sock stealer of his classroom too. I'm at a loss. Any advice?
Re: How do I get my 1 year old to wear shoes?
It took a long time for us, and C still pulls his shoes off. Drives me crazy. We had a pair of Converse (Target carries some for about $15) that worked the best in the beginning. He's in a bigger size now and I still like them best. The strings are long, so they double knot. He can get them off by rubbing his feet together if they aren't tied tight, but not often.
For us, a big deal is that C knows he can't go outside without shoes. And he loves being outside. DH also bought a pair of Nike Shocks on ebay the he couldn't get off at first. They are velcro, but fit really well and he had a hard time getting the velcro undone. I would totally get a new pair in a bigger size if I can find them used. $40 is more than I'll pay, but DH paid $15.
Some people say the Robeez are hard for kids to take off, but I never wanted to spend $35 on a pair of shoes.
My sister's little one is this to a "t". They wouldn't let him go outside without shoes. And daycare did the same thing. At first he would get mad that he couldn't go outside and flung himself on the floor, screamed, etc. He finally learned that shoes=play time outside.
DD does the same with all shoes, except Robeez-style shoes. They are hard even for me to take off her feet.
I wouldn't spend the money for Robeez but Target and Old Navy carry this type of shoes. You can also find them sometimes at Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx
Right now you can get them for $3.99 at Old Navy
