Babies: 3 - 6 Months

For formula fed babies...

One thing that I wish I had heard of earlier is to use a coffee maker during the day so that way you will always have hot water ready and you just mix in equal amounts room temp water and you have an instant bottle practically.  We bought one that we use strictly for just bottles to make sure no coffee residue gets in the bottle.  Just and idea.

  • I EBF, but that is such a good idea!
  • Loading the player...
  • Thanks.  I started out BF but when that didn't work out I switched to formula and I missed not having something instantly available for her and this seemned to help.

  • Wait ... what?

It's probably because I haven't slept in days and I have a pounding headache but I'm so confused. I've read this ten times and I don't get why you would use a coffee maker to make formula.

For warm water.  You don't have to heat up water to make your formula.

  • Oh, I get it - coffee maker to heat the water! Do you leave it on all day?

We serve room temp too, from a big pitcher we keep on the counter - pour water, scoop formula, shake and serve.

Hehe, yeah it clicked when the other poster said she did room temp, but I was typing 1-handed so I didn't get my reply out quickly.  I'm not normally so out of it, I swear!

I serve room temperature so I never have a need for hot water. I premeasure the water in all the bottles and I have a powdered formula dispenser, actually I have 2, and I just mix when I am ready to feed. There's no need to keep cold and no need to warm up. LOVE IT!

I had heard that idea and loved it but I started out BF and she refused to take a bottle if it wasn't warmed up.

Yeah we do if we are going to be home all day.

It's a good idea, but I already have a bottle warmer that's the same price as a cheap coffee maker.  If the warmer goes, I may have to keep that in mind.

We started out with the Munchkin's Deluxe Bottle and Food Warmer which was great at first but now after about 4 months its starting to act up and not heat at the same temperature each time.

I'm going straight to he!!, I will admit that I microwave the water Indifferent

I don't understand why it is so bad - the only risk I can find for microwaving water (not prepared formula) is hot spots/accidental burns.  That would obviously be awful, but I don't see how the water can still have hot spots after I warm the water, shake vigorously in a bottle, then add formula and shake some more, and check the temp before feeding.

Are you using glass or plastic bottles? I wouldn't microwave plastic bottles at all ever ...

  • We don't serve warmed bottles...we just get it straight out of the tap with slightly warm water or cooler. She's a foodie, she'll it it cold if she has to.
