Now that I'm working full time, I'm not home to make meals. Plus unfortunately one or two meals are always drive through since I have to shuttle kids to weekly appts and sports etc - every week. No getting around that. It's seriously 10 minutes to cram fast food in Alex's mouth til we arrive at our destination.
But for about 3 (sometimes 4) nights a week Dh makes dinner. I usualy tell him what he'll be making and it needs to be simple and easy and super quick and also something the kids will eat. A tall order. I try doing crockpot - but it's getting warmer out and I don't have the time in the morning to put it together (seriuosly I get my coffee and leave, I do makeup in the car! And brush my teeth at work!)
Casseroles are good, but many nights I don't have time to pre-make much. But they do work.
But I've gained 15 pounds and I have 4 months til my high school reunion. I need to really stop eating the fatty crap that is made by DH for the family (so that they'll eat it) - I need recipes that are EASY for DH to make - but very good on points AND kids will eat it - it's a crazy tall order.
Re: WW gals - need recipe help for the DH
I have been loving www.relishrelish.com.
I select my meals and it generates a shopping list as well. There are low cal, vegetarian, kid friendly, quick recipe options. The shopping list is key for me. There were too many random trips to the store, too much waste.
We have been eating together as a family 5 out of 7 nights since I started 4 weeks ago.
LOVE!
Does it give you all the information you need to calculate WW points? I have not heard about this but am very tempted to try it!
You can enter all ingredients into Recipe Builder and each recipe has Points Plus values. The recipe builder might be off because it assigns points when there is a high volume of vegetables, nevermind that the recipe is then divided by 4.
It is sooooooo much better than EMealz.
Grill! Chicken breast, turkey burgers, veggie burgers. There's 3 meals right there. and throw on some hot dogs for the kids or a burger for the kids.
Costco has the individual size packets of edamame for 3 minutes in the micro it's a good side. Serve with some cut up fruit or veggies and hummus for dipping.
Boil up a bunch of pasta on Sunday and make a different type of pasta salad each night: choose your veggies and your dressing and your cheese.
Not very exciting but that's about what we do every night in the summer too.
I was going to suggest grill as well, especially with your weather! My hubby likes to cook but can get overwhelmed in the kitchen, but feels right at home BBQ'ing. Burgers (turkey or salmon too), lean sausages & turkey dogs for the kids, kabobs. I keep a few different types of bottled marinades in the fridge to brush on chicken, or BBQ sauce is always good and easy.
