Postpartum Depression

Question for mom's that have had PPD more than once

This is my 4th child but the 1st time I have had PPD. How do/did you deal with it(besides meds)?? I want to cry all the time, I have no interest in anything. I qould rather just stay in bed all day than interact with people most days. My 15 y/o DS says I'm no fun anymore. My BF is worried about me cause I just walk around mopey and down all day. My OB put me on an anti-depressant but I was wondering what you ladies do to help you feel better even if it's only for a little bit. TIA

Re: Question for mom's that have had PPD more than once

  • Hi. I don't have any experience with ppd but I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and ptsd. I have my good days but they are mostly bad anymore but I have stopped my medication a year ago. Did your OB give you any anxiety medicine in addition to the depression medicine? I found quick acting axiety medicine to work best when I get down, but depression medicine is not working for me. May I ask what you were prescribed?

  • Pristiq is the medicine I am on right now. I was also diagnosed with depression and anxiety a couple of years before I got pregnant. Pristiq worked for me before and I'm hoping it'll work for me again. She didn't put me on an anti anxiety medicine though. I can call and discuss it with her on Monday though.

Pristiq is a great med - I'm on 100mg right now (including a host of other meds) and it's one of the only ones that's worked for me.

Other things that you can do are get HELP - get as much help as you can, and as much support as you can. That will help lessen your load so that you can focus on yourself. Also, finding something that you enjoy (small thing like knitting, etc) and that you can do during the day when you feel stressed. That helps a lot.

    All the best to you!

Getting out of the house has helped me.  Even if its just for a walk.  I also crafting has been a big help.  I sew and have made a lot of things for Olivia.

I'm on Zoloft and go back to the OB in 2 weeks, I am thinking I need my medication dosage increased.  What ever works I will do there is nothing worse then crying and you can't figure out why.  My main thing is what ever I take I still want to be able to BF.
