Is anyone else out there like me and gained more than 5-10 pounds? I have gained a whopping 22 pounds and I'm 22 weeks!! My doctor has not said anything to me and when I bring up how much I've gained he keeps telling me that since I was slender when I got pregnant and I'm tall-ish (5'7) that it's totally ok. He said you're actually supposed to gain more weight if you are slender when you become pregnant.
I just keep seeing all these posts about only gaining 5 or so pounds and it worries me! Anyone else gained around this much or it it just me?
Re: Weight Gain at 22 weeks!!
Whew! Good lord I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. All those posts were scaring me! lol
I've been refusing to look at the scale too but finally made myself tonight
*raises hand*...well, I'm not 22 wks, but I've only gained 3 thus far--but that's b/c m/s was a biotch the 1st tri, and I was playing the gaining/losing yoyo....so it's been just now that i've gained. I was like that with DS though (Gained 25 total) and he came out fine
OP--I think your weight gain is pretty normal (you can use the pregnancy weight calculator on babycenter, and it'll tell you where your weight falls) and if your dr. isn't concerned--then you have no reason to be either.
I've gained 11lbs. so far, but it varies from woman to woman.
I gained more by this point with my son, and I think I was up to 18lbs by now. I ended up gaining a total of 29lbs with him. I am also a slender build, and my doctor wanted me to gain between 25-40lbs, so I was right on target.
Try not to worry! It all evens out in the end.
I am almost in the same boat. As of this morning I am still down about 3 lbs from pp weight. And of course I also had bad m/s, it was horrible!! Once I started getting over m/s I was hit with some kind of viral infection for almost 2 weeks last month. At my last weeks apt. I had lost 2 lbs from the month before. The doc gave me a little talking too, but he knew I was sick. He told me he wanted to see me gain 4 lbs by next visit. So I would say that even though I havent technically gained any weight yet, I have not enjoyed one moment of the not gaining any weight. I am just glad I am starting to feel better and am able to actually eat food now!
ETA: OP I think you are doing fine, especially if you started out on the thin side, I still have extra weight on from DS so I am not expecting to gain too much early on.
Our Family Blog.
I have actually lost 5 pounds since my bfp and had no morning sickness... However I am a bigger girl and am supposed to only gain 5-10 pounds the whole pregnancy so I nor doctor are worried about it.
Um, me! I'm 21 weeks tomorrow, though. No m/s, but I guess I should chalk it up to no cravings and no weight gain until the 2nd trimester! It's absolutely true that everyone gains differently and we can all still be supportive of each other
I've gained 19lbs at 23 weeks. I was close to being underweight pre-preg, so I could stand to gain a good 25-30lbs.
I gained close to 30 with DD I think. It was all gone- plus some, within a month or two. I worried about my weight gain a decent amount when I was pregnant with her. Turned out it was all for nothing!
eta: Between 19-23 weeks I'm experiencing a decent jump. I have my appt Friday and expect a good 6-7lb increase from my last appt, putting me at a 19lb gain.
I don't think there is anything wrong with only gaining 5lbs at all. Right now, at 20 weeks, I have only gained 1lb. I don't think I gained anything with DS until around 22-24 weeks. I only gaind a total of 23lbs with him. It's totally normal.

This was me at 20w, but at 22w, I had gained 4 pounds more, so now I'm up 9, as of last Monday (3/28). I'm sure it's even more since then, as I finally stopped throwing at 20w, which was so helpful!
I'm also on a high protein diet now, and need to drink my weight in water each day (1 lb = 1 oz) to ward off the low fluid issue we have with Baby B, which should also help with the weight gain. And keep them both cooking as long as possible!!
Everyone gains differently -- don't worry, as long as your OB says you're okay. Thinking of you all...
I am in the exact same boat as you. I went to the doc Monday and I have gained 22 lbs in 23 weeks (7 lbs was just in the last month!)
. My doctor said I am a skinny girl so it is fine and I can afford to put on the extra weight, so she isn't worried. However, it still makes me feel like a fat cow and makes me wonder if I am going to be 45+ lbs by the time this baby gets here
. Even though my doc isn't worried, I am because it just seems like so much so fast.
oh god, i'm one of those crazy people who have only gained 5 lbs! i'm really slim as is and have only gained between 3-5 lbs. i was a bit worried, but my doctor didn't seem to be. my A/S seemed like everything was on track. i'm eating, i swear! sometimes it's healthy, and sometimes it is not. SN - pickle pringles rock my world. anyways, i think everyone gains different. i fully expect to just pop one day and gain 5lbs in week.
I know! There was a post that went around about a week ago and I freaked out. Ladies were saying they gained 5 lbs, or had lost weight still, etc. I gained 10 lbs., according to my appointment yesterday. I'm 22 weeks and 3 days. My doctor said that she was proud of me for gaining 10 lbs and being more than halfway through because I'm overweight to begin with. Thank God! I was getting upset after that post.
Gaining weight is healthy when you're pregnant and everyone does it at different rates. If the doctor's not upset about it then everything should be fine. My doc said it should be 1-2 lbs per week.
I'm in this boat! OP- if your doc isn't worried about it neither should you! Like other posts said, everyone gains differently. I had no m/s but still lost a few lbs in 1st tri. Now I think I'm finally up like 2 lbs since pp weight (118) and I'm only 5'2. My doc said if I'm still not gaining weight by 24 weeks then he'll look into it but he's not worried about it yet. So I'll just continue eating my mud pie ice cream and snacking through the day! It'll catch up to me I know it.
Everyone is just different!
I have not gained anything yet, but my doctor was not concerned at all. He said baby is measuring perfect, and that's what matters as long as I am continuing to eat well. I was not small before, but not large either. With my DD, I was slow to gain as well, but gained 29 lbs by the end.
I'm right there also, at 5 lbs in 23 weeks. I did have some ms but I mostly lost some weight while having the flu and constantly running after my toddler... (We call her DASH because she's superfast) I'm 5'9 and started out at 122lbs so the doc is expecting me to gain around 25-30 this pregnancy and is not worried about the few pounds I've gained so far. It will happen, just like with my DD, in third tri it just piles on. Everyone is different.
I guess I should confess to sitting here and writing this while eating a cinnabun and girl scout cookies
and a milkshake! It's almost as bad as when I decided to have lunch at Haagen Daas....
