Babies: 3 - 6 Months

My 4 month old may have hearing loss and I am scared.

When my DS was born he didn't pass his hearing test in his right ear and since then we have been to the audiologist and they are having a  hard time getting anything from his right ear. Anyone here with a little one with hearing loss please write in and let me know your experience.

If not, please keep my DS in your thoughts and prayers. They want to run the test one more time but I was told that the results may not change. I am praying for a miracle.

  • Hi, Hun! I dont have a child with HL, but I do have a degree in Speech and Hearing, and before having Greyson, I worked in an Audiologist hearing Center, as a hearing specialist.

I just want to let you know that 1) hearing loss in a single ear, is not all that life altering. I went to school with a kid who had no hearing in his left ear and no one ever knew...until he told us one day.

    2) There are so many advances in hearing techonoligies, that can help your baby. Though I doubt he'll need it.

    3) His speech should not be too affected, and if it is, a speech pathologist will be able to get him caught up / keep them on sch.

Please dont worry! Out of all the complications that could arise, hearing loss is one of the "better" ones (if ther ever is a better complication).

Good Luck. I'll keep your family in my thoughts / prayers!

  • I have HL and have since I was little. I wear hearing aids. I'm happy to be a support system for you if you wish. PM me if you want.
  • I was reading through your responses to this post and want to say that I love the supportive women here.  :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your little one.  I will be sending good thoughts your way!

  • BFF has hl in her right ear. I almost always forget. She speaks beautifully and is a talented writer.

It doesn't have to affect him.  :)

  • I'll definitely keep your son in my thoughts.

My sisters little boy (who's 6 months older than Charlie) had HL in both ears and has had hearing aids since he was 6 months. I know that it was something new for her to get used to (putting them on/off, caring for them, etc) but it's just something she's used to now.

    Keep us updated!
