i do and i started therapy with her, but i am thinking joint counseling may not end up helping us, because i learned that my mom is rather selfish. so i started looking for some books.

i stumbled on these books on amazon and couldn't believe it! i would not have even known how to search for this kind of stuff, so i was thinking one of you ladies may benefit from them, too. i have not read these, but was able to put one of them on hold at the library.

Those sound like good books!  My counselor also recommended this book to me re: sister's ex-H but I definitely saw parts of my mom in some of the descriptions.  (And she admitted she did, too.)

I just deleted my comment because I wasn't sure if it WAS the same person and didn't want to assume.  I don't know her as well as CJ does so I'll let her make the introductions.  But good luck to both of you!

Interesting.  Glad you found good books. I'll be interested to hear what you think when you finish reading them.  I'm in the crazy mom's club - so if you ever need to commiserate, let me know.  The best thing I discovered a few years ago was when I realized that my mother only had the power over me that I allowed her to have. That realization coupled with realizing that my validation in life did not come from her completely changed my perspective of myself, our relationship and my perspective on life.
