When hungry, I get dizzy

I have had 2 spells of feeling faint, dizzy and shacky. This happens when I get a little bit hungry then all of a sudden I get these symptoms. I feel much better after I eat and drink water. Its annoying because I am not sure when I will get hungry and if I can't eat at that second I feel like this. I hope this doesn't hurt my baby, 13 weeks today. Anyone else have this or know what causes it? Thanks!

Re: When hungry, I get dizzy

  • low blood sugar? I'm just guessing. I do know that dizziness is a symptom of 2nd trimester, but mostly due to lower blood pressure.

  • I had this happen for the first time this morning! I usually don't even eat until around 8:15, but while I was getting ready for work at about 7:45 I suddenly started sweating, got really nauseated and light headed and felt like I was going to pass out. It was scary. I started feeling a little better after I ate some cereal. Really hoping this isnt going to become my new morning routine!
  • I do this too, and did it before I got pg and I was told low blood sugar. I have to eat some kind of protein pretty soon after I get up.
  • I can go from fine to almost sick hungry in two seconds, I never would have believed it until I experienced it...

  • This happens to me too. Could be low blood sugar or low blood pressure, but could it also be low iron? The doctor tested my blood last time and my iron levels were low so she put me on Slow Fe. Have you had your sugar/iron levels checked?

  • Probably low blood sugar. I always carry honey packets in my purse just in case I get shaky from low blood sugar all ways make sure you have some sort of snack in your purse and that you are eating more often.

  • all of the symptoms listed above sound like low blood sugar.  i was hypoglycemic for over 10 years and then while pregnant with DD, my sugar corrected itself.

you need to carry snacks--and you should be eating lots of protein and complex carbs.  no sugary foods or drinks--this causes your sugar to spike up and then drop very low.  you should also eat within 30 min. of waking and eat a snack before you go to bed at night. foods to avoid: potatoes, white rice, regular pasta, white bread.  instead you need to eat: sweet potatoes, brown rice, whole grain breads, wheat pasta; along with lots of proteins and veggies.  and make sure you are drinking a lot of water.

and do not wait until you feel hungry--it is too late then, you can become very sick--very quickly.  you need to eat or snack every 3 hours to maintain your sugar levels.

  • Before I leave the house I throw some snacks in my purse, like an apple, pieces of cheese (string cheese), peanut butter crackers, etc. Whenever I start feeling hungry or woozie I have something to nibble on.

  • I get the same thing when I don't eat when I'm hungry.  I get dizzy, shaking, stomach pains, and sweating.  Once I start eating, it goes away.  The dr told me my blood sugar is low and just need to eat.
