Itchy diaper rash...help!

DD has had a diaper rash the last two weeks that I can not get on top of.  It really seems to itch.  I have tried desitin, butt paste and A&D.  Nothing seems to help.  It is splochy red patches that are slightly raised  She woke up this morning and had itched till she was bleeding.  Can you recommend anything else?  We have never had a bad rash. All the others have gone away over night with desitin.  If it doesn't get better by the morning I am calling for a drs appt.  TIA

  • Calmoseptine, I swear, is the best. It was reccommended to me by my pedi. It's usually sold at the pharmacy, not with the other diaper creams. I get ours from meijer or cvs. It has a light tingle when you first put it on that gives you instant relief. I highly rec it! You can read other reviews on amazon.

  • Do you think it is yeast? If so, I don't think regular creams will help, you need an antifungal (motherlove makes one sold at Whole Foods or you can use athlete's foot OTC creams)
  • Calmoseptine!! it's best. i can only find it around us at a small local pharmacy! but i swear by it and give it away with my baby shower gifts to new moms! hope you find something that works!

  • I'm not sure.  I had some lotromin here for DS since he had a little spot that the pedi said was yeast.  I used it this morning and before her nap and it hasn't helped at all.

  • I use monistat (the 7-day version) on anything that looks yeasty on DD.  It works better for her than anything else.

If its really bad and bleeding, I do monistat, butt paste and cornstarch powder.

  • IDK, but DD has had the same thing for about 10 days now. She has very delicate skin, and has had a variety of diaper rashes, but none of her regular creams have worked on this one, even the Rx ones.
Desitin soothes it, but not for long, and nothing is making it go away.

Looks like I'll be stopping by the pharmacy to pick up some calmoseptine after work. Never heard of it, but it's worth a shot. Otherwise we're probably headed to the pedi.

  • If it's yeasty - you need to apply a think layer of lotrimin or another anti-fungal and then a THICK layer of Triple Paste.  Triple Paste is a little pricey but it is our GO TO treatment - nothing else even comes close.  (I have heard good things about calmoseptine though.)  Also - no wipes - soft warm wet washcloths only until rash is clear - and LOTS of diaper free time.  No diaper = no diaper rash.  GL hope it's gone soon.

poor thing. Sounds like a yeast infection. DS had one about a month ago and the dr. prescribed us a special lotion. I can't remember the name though. GL
