Confirmation that an email was read?

Is there an email 'company' that allows you to know when someone reads an email you sent? If so....I wish I would have signed up and used the new address last night. I sent a really important email to my in-laws last night (MIL wouldn't talk to me on the phone, so email had to do) and it's killing me to know whether they've read it or not!

Re: Confirmation that an email was read?

  • I wish my email was like that too! If I remember right way back when I had AOL in high school you got confirmation if you email was read ..

  • Dh says no. Only if you're in the same network like within a company.

  • I know that through my work e-mail (Microsoft Outlook) we have an option to request a delivery or read reciept once it has been read. I received an e-mail from a customer the other day not in our same e-mail network that asked if I would be OK with sending a read reciept to them. The thing is that the person who receives it can check "no" and I don't think it will send anything to the person who sent the e-mail.

I think though it's an exchange server thing, not an interenet web based email system that can do that.
