VBAC

New to the VBAC board~

Hello ladies!  I am back on TB with #2!  I was "forced" to have a c-section with my first, mainly because it seemed like the Dr did not want to come in after hours (neither DD nor I were having any difficulties).  I had GD, but my daughter (who was born only a week early) weighed only 7lb 1 oz, which IMO is average and not a humongous baby like the Dr said I was going to have. I did what i was supposed to regarding diet and exercise, but the Dr never intended to let me deliver naturally.  I am now with a new Dr and am praying that 1. The hospital allows VBAC, and 2. He does them himself.  The one thing I have always wanted to experience is natural childbirth.  plus, now that i will have 2 little ones to take care of, I would like the recovery to be easier~

Re: New to the VBAC board~

  • Welcome to the board! I hope it will pump you up as much as it does me to be here and read everybody's stories! :) Hopefully I'll have a success story of my own to share with you in the next week. Congrats on baby #2 on the way!
  • Welcome and good luck :)

What did the doctor say was the medical reason for your c/s?

  • Welcome!  There are posts from time to time about questions to ask an OB/midwife about VBAC.  I definitely went in with a solid list of questions and interviewed several providers (4 actually) before I selected my midwife.  There are also certain red flags to look for --- unfortunately there are providers that will pull and bait and switch on VBAC hopeful moms.

Congrats on your pregnancy and stick around - I've learned a lot from everyone here, just as PP also said.

That's kind of what I figured.  How many cm were you when you had your c/s?

I was induced at 8AM and sectioned at 6PM... same diagnosis.  Another OB has since told me he thinks it was a convenience surgery.  Not all women dilate 1 cm/hr - especially for first babies and during an induction, where your labor is articifically stimulated.  It's an arbitrary timetable lots of women get put on...me included.

  • I was 4cm dilated.  i know it was a convenience thing...when i spoke to his nurses at my follow up appointment, she alluded to the fact that they all knew i was going to have a c/s
