When I had G the nurses at the hospital never called my pedi, so G was checked out and discharged by the Neonatologist and I got a $700 bill after we got home. I'm trying to avoid the same thing with this baby, but my pedi doesn't have privileges at the hospital I'm going to deliver at.
Do I just find someone that takes my insurance with privileges at my hospital and give the nurses that info when I deliver without meeting a doctor or contacting the pedi office? Do I have to find a pedi and pretend like I'm switching so they'll come check out DS when he's born? Anyone else deal with a similar situation?
Re: A pedi question
My pedi doesn't have privileges at the hospital where I delivered but I wanted to avoid the on-call pedi (Dr. P actually suggested avoiding the on-call because he said they tend to err on the side of extreme caution). He gave me the name of a friend of his who has privileges at our hospital. I put her name down as our pedi on the hospital paperwork. When she first came in to see Cooper I explained "We're patients of Dr. P, he gave me your name and suggested we see you while in hospital." She was fine with it and took great care of us. We actually really liked her but Dr. P is much closer to our house.
I used the name of the Pedi my Pedi suggested. He said that the Pedi he recommended only does hospital visits and doesn't do "regular office visits" so I guess this is very common. I never even saw the Pedi since he checked DS out while he was in the nursery after his circumcision. I think we got a bill for a small amount. Nothing anywhere near $700.
