I had my first one at 7.5 weeks to confirm viability of my pregnancy after a prior loss and that's when we discovered I was carrying twins. Cue doctor change (my prior practice was a birthing center that doesn't do mulitples) and second sono at about 9.5 weeks to check the status of a pocket of fluid. My next appointment isn't until the 21st which will be 5 weeks since my last sono. I assume the doc will do another one at that point.
I have heard from other MoM's that I know IRL that at some point I'll have sonos every 2 weeks or so. Was this the case for you? Just curious what to expect. My next appointment is when I meet my new doctor for the first time (prior appt was with a midwife) so I know she'll tell me what her plans are then.
Re: How frequently did you have sonos?
7 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks (NT scan), 18 weeks (anatomy), 22 weeks, 26 weeks, 28 weeks (PTL), 30 weeks (PTL - admitted to hospital for bedrest) and then I had them every 2-3 days to check status of placenta/cord placement.
Every practice is different
Are they mono/mono, mono/di or di/di?
I have mono/di and originally I was supposed to have ultrasounds every 2 weeks starting at 16 weeks. But then we had a scare of twin to twin, so we've had them weekly since 16 weeks. So, we had one at 8 and found out they were twins, at 10 to determine if they were mono/mono or mono/di, then at 13 for nuchal translucency testing, then starting at 16 weeks we are at weekly scans. I've heard that it varies from center to center, but the norm for mono/di is every 2 weeks.
1 every week between weeks 5-8 with RE. A quick one at 10 (the 1st with my OB), one at 13 due to some spotting and I got a quick cervix check via ultrasound at week 16. Then my anatomy scan was at 18 weeks, another cervix check at 20 weeks, and a growth scan (like an anatomy scan) at 24 weeks. And that brings you up to date, lol! I'm sure I'll get more growth scans between now and my C-section. Maybe once a month? - I never asked.
At our anatomy scan, they gave us pictures in an envelope that said "babies first photo" and my DH said "more like babies 15th photo" lol!
After 2 years, Injects, PCOS diagnosis and 2 IUI's, we were blessed with our beautiful twin girls!
Baby Girl #3!
Mine are didi. I also did IVF and have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss/ectopics.
i had 5.2w, 5.6w, 7.5,8.5,9.5,10.5,11.5 (nT scan), 14 weeks (bleeding) 18 weeks (anatomy).
My next one is 24 weeks for a growth scan. Ill have growth scan every 4 weeks until 36 wks.
It seems like every practice is different, as is the pregnancy. But in my situation, I had some minor cramping early on and a small amount of cervical shortening. They wanted to keep a close eye on my cervix, so I had an u/s every week from 11 weeks to about 14 weeks. After that, I went to every other week until about 18 weeks. Then I went to having them with every monthly appointment.
At 26 weeks I started seeing my OB every other week, and would have an u/s once a month, unless they wanted to check something out. At 30 weeks they started doing weekly Biophysical Profiles (BPP) and Non-stress tests (NST's) which would include an u/s, the plan was to do this until I delivered and there was the possibility that I could have them twice a week. I only made it to one of these though, before being admitted to the hospital for Pre-E.
While I was in the hospital, I had them twice a week for growth checks, and sometimes daily if they were having trouble keeping them on the monitors. I found that my office was pretty liberal with the u/s though...

My dr does an ultrasound every appt (8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks) and will have another one at 20 weeks. He said we will get one every appt to check on them and its easier for them to do it with an u/s then with just the doppler.
He did say at my 24 week appt that they would decide if I would start going every 2 weeks, or have another 4 week and then switch to every 2 weeks. With weekly NST's starting at 28 or 30 weeks depending on how we are doing.
