Opinions on Arm and Hammer Detergent?

I was in the local grocery store and figured I would check out what they have available in the detergent aisle.  I checked out the Tide.  Opening the bottle, sniffed, and started itching (my skin is supersensitive and I have used nothing but All Free and Clear for the last 15 years).  Anyway I decided Tide was not an option for us, but they had Arm and Hammer Free for Sensitive Skin on sale.  I did the sniff test and it passed, so on a whim I bought it.

Does anyone use this for their CDs?  Bonus if you use it in a HE frontloader.  What's your opinion on it?

TIA.

Re: Opinions on Arm and Hammer Detergent?

  • I currently use this detergent (I am pregnant w/my first kiddo). I think it's a great, economical detergent and it doesn't bother DH's or my skin, even though we both have sensitive skin.  That said, I will not be using it on baby/CDs b/c it apparently isn't very good for CDs from the reviews and blogs I've read.

  • I use it on everything - our clothes, baby's clothes, and our CDs.  So far I have had zero issues with repelling or stink, and DS hasn't had any skin problems.  We've been CDing 3 months now in hard water, and it's the only detergent I use (I also use Ecover sometimes).  No, it's not a super high rated CD detergent, but the reason why (it contains optical brighteners) shouldn't interfere with the CDs working.  We have a top loader, so I can't help with HE info, though the bottle I bought most recently says something about rinsing better than previously (I haven't noticed any change from my old bottle).

I would stay away from any "free and clear" detergents, I've heard too many bad things about them.

  • Thanks.  I can only use free and clear due to my skin...  Anything with fragrance is disastrous on my skin.
