D.C. Area Babies

What do you pay for in-home daycare?

Obviously no one has to answer this if discussing pricing makes you uncomfortable, but my DCP is considering changing her prices for incoming children and she was wondering what the average price was in the area.  I consider her to be rather cheap, not the very cheapest, but I always think we are getting a great deal for the awesome care my kids get.  They have a huge backyard and playroom and I really feel like she treats the kids as her own.  I am going to cry when/if we move in a year.  I mentioned kindergarten for Maggie the other day and she got teary eyed.

We pay $210 for under 2, $180 for 2-4 and there is a 10% off your entire bill if you have more than one there.  So right now we pay $351/week for one over and one under 2.  She provides breakfast, snacks and drinks.  I provide diapers, wipes and lunch.  She is located in Olney, MD.  She has never increased her prices since we started (she felt that would be wrong, which is why she is thinking of new pricing for new comers).

  • We pay $275 (in Arlington), including all meals and snacks.  No price step-down as kids get older.  Not sure if there's a break for more than one, since I don't have that situation.

  • We pay $225/week for DD and she's giving us a discount for DS at $200/week.  The price is the same regardless of age, she typically only keeps kids up to age 3 but she does have two twin sisters that are 4 right now.  DCP provides meals.

  • She sounds like a fabulous deal! Our DCP is $200/week for f/t under 2's (although C only goes p/t). She provides milk and snacks.

When we were shopping around last fall, most places in our neighborhood were $200-$250 per week and that's about what my friends pay for their under 2's in MoCo, but without all the extras that your DCP provides.

  • Our in-home is $250/week for infants. She gives us a 10% discount for having two babies there and ours only go 3 days a week (the minimum she allows), so we end up paying $270 per week for both babies. We provide diapers, formula, and baby food. I'm not sure what her rates are for toddlers.
  • I pay $240 a week in PW county. That includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and milk. We provide diapers and wipes. The price stays the same no matter the age, but we're also guaranteed that it won't increase while we are there.

  • We pay $220/week for an infant. I think that kids usually go on to centers after 2. She mostly likes taking care of babies, which I think is kind of nice. We provide all of the food, diapers, wipes, etc.

  • I agree with pps, you are getting a great deal.  I pay $220 a week for DD#2, all food included, I provide diapers and wipes, we're in Falls Church/Merrifield.  When we looked last year, the range was $190-$240.  DD#1 was in the same daycare 2 years ago and we paid $190/week then.

  • $400 a week for both my kids.  No break in price as they age, and no break in price for having two kids there.  We provide all food, diapers and wipes.

If your person is raising their rates, I don't blame them because they're super cheap right now.  Sounds like they're trying to stay current with the market, as well they should.  What's nice is that you get to keep your super-cheap rates - bonus!

  • We pay $250/wk for in-home near Glenmont.  There is no price decrease after age 2, but she does offer a sibling discount (I am not sure what it is because we haven't started sending DS2 yet).  I send food and diapers - she sometimes cooks breakfast or lunch for the kids and she provides snacks.
  • Sounds like a great deal!  We pay $185 and we provide meals, diapers and wipes.  The price will go down to $165 once she turns 2.

  • $165 per week and she doesn't charge me for not using her over the summer (I teach).  The others I interviewed charged $185 and $210 for infants and would charge me for not using them over the summer (like, 50%).  I used to bring food, diapers, wipes, etc. but now that he is older I just do diapers and wipes.

There is no charge change for ages and DCP takes kids before and after school for the same price, which I think is how she is able to be so cheap on our end.

  • we pay $200.00 for our son.  She provides breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks.
