DH headache update

I wanted to update you all since you've been so helpful and supportive as my poor DH battles a constant headache. Unfortunately we haven't found anything to make it go away yet. He's seen a neurologist/headache specialist and she ordered a second MRI, this one of his spine. That showed something we already knew--his spine is not the normal "S" curve but instead is a "C." This has caused him a lot of back problems over the years and obviously isn't something that can be changed. It also showed some degeneration, nothing that was overly concerning but they'll recheck in a year. If this is the cause of the headache, that will really suck since there's nothing we can do to fix it.

So far he's been on several different meds, and has been to the chiropractor. The chiro said if he was going to make a difference it should show up within the first few visits, and so far no luck. The next step from the neurologist is an infusion treatment, which he'll have Wednesday. They hook him up to an IV of meds and also give him injections in the neck (yikes!). The idea is to try to knock the headache out since it is so entrenched now.

We still plan to try massage, allergy testing, maybe acupuncture...unfortunately I don't think any of those things are covered by insurance. I'm already stressing about all the bills we'll be getting for everything that's been done so far. 

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, but I'll take all your healing thoughts and prayers for him! I hate seeing him in pain, he is trying so hard to be his normal self but I can tell it wears on him. I'll update Wednesday on how the infusion treatment goes.

I'm also open to any other suggestions of things that have helped you or someone you know!

I am so sorry that nothing has helped him so far.  Migraines are so hard, but I can't even imagine dealing with them for the time he's had them.  I really hope the chiro treatments do the trick (Eek on the neck injections)!!  I'm sending headache-free vibes his way!

Thanks guys. The poor man is actually looking forward to the infusion treatment in the hopes of getting some relief.

Ugh! Headaches are the worst! I'm so sorry he's having to deal with this. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable it would be to have it be an ongoing issue. I really hope something you guys get to the root of the problem and find something to help him out. I know you're worried too, and that makes it even harder!  Don't stress on the bills right now: that's not going to help. You can pay them off in monthly installments if you have to. Lots of places are willing to work with you on that. So just let that part go! Easier said than done, I know.

I'm sorry that you guys are having to go through that. I know all those dr appointments are rough and to still have no answers, must be so frustrating. Hang in there. I hope he finds relief soon.

This just breaks my heart. Chronic pain is so terribly draining and miserable for the whole family! I pray that you guys find something that works soon! I am so sorry that you and J are dealing with this! HUGS and lots of T&Ps heading your way, K!!

poor hubs...   double check your insurance though.  mine covers massage with a rx.   an FSA will cover things like massage too....

So sorry you guys have to deal with this, my DH suffers chronic migraines and it is the worst. So far he has tried: Massage Therapy, Chiro, Daily Meds (Topamax), Acupuncture, Neurologist, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Dietary adjustments all with no luck. Right now he is taking different vitamin supplements that seem to be helping at least a little. He is taking vitamin B2, Feverfew, Magnesium and Vitamin D. Exercise also seems to help and he takes Imatrex when he gets them which has been the biggest asset. Good luck, I know how hard it is!

Thanks for the update.  I have no advice, you guys are trying everything I would have thought of - I'll keep you all in my prayers, this is tough for the whole family I bet!

As someone who lives with horrible headaches from as early as 2nd grade, I feel for your dh and hope he finds something that works for him.  Who is your neurologist?  He might want to also go see dr lukas @ uw.  She founded the headache center there and is really wonderful.  https://www.medical.washington.edu/bios/view.aspx?CentralId=17371

I was hoping this was going to be a positive update. Sorry your dh hasn't gotten and relief or answers. I get the occasional migraine and it's rough. (they were often when I worked so I'm pretty sure it was due to stress) I can't imagine having constant headaches. Hope he finds something soon that will take the pain away!

Same here!  So sorry to hear this, K.  If your insurance doesn't cover it, a lot of offices will give you an upfront discount if you pay at the time of service - I think my naturopath does 40% off if you're not covered by insurance - so it's definitely something to look into.
