And I thought media outlets frowned on reporting these, because they sensationalize suicide. I guess I was wrong. Its really tragic that a HS student felt that hopeless.

I just had a "Heathers" flashback in a bad way It's so sad that anyone can feel that alone in the world.
The ER's see an increasing amount of alcohol consumption in the form of binge drinking and suicidal ideation/attempts this time of year. The stress of the year end is really upon kids and they feel like there is no way out.
One year we had a little girl (>12 years old) who was so terrified of TAKS testing that she'd plucked out all her eyebrow and eyelash hairs with nervousness. She had no history or evidence of any other psychological or situational distress. Her teachers had her convinced her entire future rested on how she did on that test and she took it very seriously. Her mother feared (correctly) that she may have been having thoughts of hurting herself based on the hair pulling. The little girl had a precise plan which was scary elaborate given her age
Add a few years of age, experience and actual future riding on your everyday school life and suicide can start to look like the only way out. Pregnancy is another risk factor for teen self harm.
This makes me so incredibly sad My first dh took his own life and I know all too well what a horrible dark place he was in. I'm so, so sad a child felt that way and acted on it. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
Re: Sorry I'm being a PW, student commits suicide AT school
Ugh, so sad. My friend just told me this is the 2nd death in as many weeks.
"they had a kid die just last weekend at a house party. ODed on XTC and all the other high schoolers at teh party assumed he had just passed out."
I had heard that! This is terrible.
