SAHM tell me about your schedule?

I will soon join the ranks.  I will be leaving my job in 6 weeks to become a SAHM while my husband reenters the workforce.  I am interested to see what your schedule looks like.  I was thinking about purchasing some curriculum for Ethan and I, to give some structure to our day, but other than that I have no idea how I am going to structure things.

Re: SAHM tell me about your schedule?

  • We get up around 9, change diapers, get dressed.  I still give the baby a bottle so my son eats mini waffles in the living room while I feed her.

Then they play for about 1 hour.  Or we go outside, to the library, to music class.

Then baby naps and I do dishes/laundry while my son plays in kitchen/his bedroom.

Then lunch, more play in living room, then nap, dinner.

After dinner we go out to play or go somewhere as a family.

We definately have a routine, but we also vary from it.  As long as we are home after lunch for naps everyone is good.  They do spend alot of time playing in the living room, my son also watches some tv, 1 hour a day, usually after lunch.

  • My day is more chaotic due to having a 2 yr old and 8 month old. Here's our schedule most of the days.

wake up 6am to have alone time, shower. kids wake up at 8am. Bottles, breakfast and #2 goes down for a nap. #1 watches favorite cartoons during #2's nap so she's quiet. I do housework during that time. When #2 wakes up we try to go for a walk around the lake in our neighborhood. Lunchtime, both go down for a nap around 1pm. I rest, nest, blog. They wake up, snacktime, usually color and do art. We play with toys, read books or just love on them. DH gets home around 3pm, visit, start dinner and nighttime routine. I wouldn't think a 2 yr old needs a curriculum per say, but I do work on colors, number, and letters during the day at random times so she doesn't get bored with a learning routine. Just have fun! It can be hard to transition to being at home everyday, I came from a high stressed advertising position to no stress except my kids. It was a doozy, but now I absolutely love being at home.

  • We get up around 7,  DS eats breakfast and then we watch some cartoons together for about an hour. Starting at about 8:30/9:00 he comes with me from room to room while I make the bed and do the rest of my housework.  If either one of us needs to go to the Dr or if I have food shopping to do, I always schedule it for the morning, so that our afternoon is free for fun.

Lunch is around 12:00, then DS goes down for a nap.  A soon as he wakes up we head out for the day, whether its for a playdate, to run errands, a trip to the park, his kiddie gym or to visit grandma. We go out every single day that the weather allows us.  I think I can count on one hand how many days we've ever spent the whole day at home.

I try to be back in the house between 5 and 5:30 to start dinner.  He eats at 6, then gets a bath, and the last hour he is awake he spends with Daddy. Bedtime is at 8.

  • I don't know about curriculum, but I try to take classes with Kate, joined a couple of playgroups, and we go to things like library story hour to get her around other kids and learning in a fun way.  We are busy every morning from about 9:30-12 with baby class (Mon), playgroup (Tues and Fri), music class (Thurs) and story hour or the babysitter (Weds).  Here's our schedule:

    6:30 am: wake up
    7:30 am: breakfast
hang out at the house, shower, get dressed, play with toys, read books until we leave for morning activity. Sometimes we go to the dog park.
    9:30ish: morning activity (see above)
    12:00: home for lunch
12:30-2:30: nap (I do housework or rest during this time.  Sometimes I cook dinner if it is something I can prep in advance)
3:00: walk around the neighborhood with the dog
3:30-5ish: afternoon activity.  Usually the park, another playgroup, art project, errands, cooking together, etc.
    6:00: dinner
7:00 bath, books, bed by 7:15.

    HTH.

  • We always try to get out to do something in the morning and then the afternoons are kinda free time. ?I babysit for another little girl that is 2 weeks younger than DS at her house 2 mornings a week (9-12) and DS comes with me and plays wit her. ?The other mornings we have Gymboree, Tumble Tots and Library Story time. ?Here is our basic schedule.

    8:00am up

    8:30am breakfast

9:30ish out for morning activity, depending on the day

    12:00 home for lunch

    12:30-2:00 nap

    3:00 snack

3:30-5:30 free time to do whatever, play outside, walk down to the park, run errands etc

    6:00 dinner

    6:30-7:30 family time

    8:00 bedtime routine

    8:30 asleep?

  • I have two now, so my schedule has changed a little bit recently.  But my DH leaves for work at 7:15, so I make sure I'm up by 6:30 so I can be showered and ready for the day by the time he leaves (b/c sometimes DS #1 gets up earlier and I just can't shower with him around anymore...used to he would play in the PNP in our bathroom, but now the new baby uses that downstairs).

So 7:15-8am is breakfast for DS, nurse the baby

8 - 9 play with toys, watch cartoons, get the kids dressed

on Tuesday/Thursday DS has preschool from 9-1, so the baby and I run errands during this time, meet friends for lunch, anything fun that's hard to do with a toddler!  This will change in a few months as DS #2 starts needing a predictable morning nap though - for now he still sleeps anywhere, all the time.  I'll probably clean the house while he naps.

M/W/F we have playdates, library storytime, go to the park, go to the indoor playplace, grocery shop (this is still doable for me with two for the time being) - but we definitely get out of the house!

     1 - 4 is naptime for DS #1

4 -6 we usually play outside, get dinner ready

6pm is dinner and hope DH gets home soon - they play together, bathe, and get ready for bedtime at 8.

I think your curriculum idea is great though, I probably don't "teach" enough during the day and a little bit of structure in that regard couldn't hurt!

  • If you can sign up for some classes. We gymboree, music, and art. It is so nice to get out of the house everyday. We also have grocery shopping day and target day. We go to story time at the library, and have playdates as much as possible. The schedule will fall into place. I know that I am the happiest (and my DD as well) when we do not spend the whole day at the house! Have fun!
