Pregnant after IF

Anyone have numbness in arms and legs?

I've been having numbness in my legs on and off for a while and when I lay down my arms go numb, but today the numbness has turned into an aching/numbness/weakness pain in my arms, to the point where my left arm and hand aren't really responding they are kind of sluggish in movements.  Anyone else have something like this?

Re: Anyone have numbness in arms and legs?

  • I have frequent numbness/aching in my hands, wrists, and forearms due to carpal tunnel. It gets worse when I lay down (and the fluids from my lower body drain into my hands). My hands are so swollen today it's difficult for me to bend my fingers. Have you had any carpal tunnel issues during your pregnancy?

  • My legs went numb a couple of times around 23-25 weeks....especially if I stayed in one position too long (even standing). But it has stopped since. The director of our MoM's program always asks if I'm experiencing carpal tunnel symptoms because she says it's very common in pregnancy. Could that be what you are experiencing with your arm/hand? I hope it stops soon for you sweetie!

  • Hmmm....maybe it's carpal tunnel.  Does the pain extend up your arms from your hands?  Like a dull ache?

  • okay I just googled pregnancy carpal tunnel and found this description and I would say this is exactly what I am experiencing including the clumsy/weak feeling, but only in one arm/hand.  Is there anything the doctor can do?

Symptoms may include numbness, tingling, burning, pain, or a dull ache in the fingers, hand, wrist, and even up the arm to the shoulder. In severe chronic cases, your hand may feel clumsy or weak.

  • I googled carpal tunnel in pregnancy and this popped up (sounds like what you are experiencing):

Sorry if it's not clicky, I'm on my iPad.

If it gets worse, I'd say call your OB just to be safe :)

Ha, too funny...we were both googling at the same time :) Not too sure if the doctor can do anything, but you never know!

That's the same thing I found :-).  I already called the advice nurse and am just waiting for a call back.   I have been swelling more than usual the last few days and my left hand is pretty swollen so now I am thinking that this is probably what this is.  The bigger problem is I work in IT and am on the computer  8 hrs a day and I can't really avoid that.  I'm trying to develop some new reports this morning with one hand and it is very slow going.

  • My arms fall asleep very easily.  Usually when I am laying down, so it hasn't been a problem.

  • I wear nightime wrist braces that help tremendously for my carpal tunnel. I have the ones by Futuro, and while they are cumbersome they do the trick. The leg numbness could be caused by scaitic nerve pressure. The pressure on your sciatic nerve can cause your legs to go numb, especially if you stay in one place for too long. Sitting is the worst position, so I get this by the end of my workday.

  • My doc called back and said that it is most likely carpal tunnel and wants me to wear the wrist braces at night and see if that resolves the issue.  I have been having arm/hand numbness/falling asleep for about 4-6 weeks when I sleep/lay down and he said that is an early sign and feels confident the braces will work.  I'm going to get them after work and hoping tomorrow is a better day.

  • Yep. My arms and hands go numb when I sleep and the bottom of my feet get numb and hurt/tingle.

Feel better! It's a weird feeling.
