Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Need advice

My DD will be 5 months on the 12th.  She was sleeping through the night (8:30-4/5, eat, then back down until 7/7:30) until about 2 weeks ago.  She has been waking up multiple times for sometimes 1-2 hours.  Sometimes it works to give her the nuk and pat her a few time and she goes back to sleep.  Other times she fights it.  I don't want to feed her before 4ish because I know that she can go longer but for the last 2 weeks I have given in earlier because I just want her to go back to sleep.  So I guess my question is do you usually wait to feed you LO until a certain time at night or do you just give in and feed when they wake up?  By the way she is be no means a little peanut that needs the extra feeding, when she does eat she is satisfied with 3 oz.  Any advice on how to get through this would be great, we are all very tired and cranky at my house.

Re: Need advice

  • Hey my DD will be 5 months on the 12th also!  We went through this about 2.5 weeks ago.  She used to sleep 11 hours straight at night then started waking up 2-3x at night, and I just fed her even though I worried that she'd get used to it and keep waking up.  She did 2-3 wake up's per night for about a week, then it was down to 1-2, and then just 1.   I fed her each time.  Now she is back to her usual sleep pattern (11-12 hours uninterrupted) so I attributed it to the 4 month wakeful period.

So, based on my experience, my advice would be to feed her.  DD was super distracted eating during the day, so I assumed she was waking because she was hungry.  Luckily it only lasted a few weeks (knock on wood).

  • It is good to hear that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  This is getting so frustrating.  If you don't mind me asking, how does your DD nap during the day?  My husband is attributing her waking up because she does take a longer (2-3 hour) nap during the day.

She naps terribly :)   Takes 3 naps for 30 minutes each.  I think that for this age a 2-3 hour nap is totally appropriate though and wish DD would figure it out.  Total sleep for a 24 hour period is about 13.5 hours for my babe.
