Green Smoothies

I know this has been posted a few times recently but I can't find it.  (Can someone link me to the post.)

What is your favorite green smoothie recipe?  Do you just throw stuff in or measure?  I would like to make them with yogurt, would I still need to add ice?

Thanks!

Re: Green Smoothies

  • I dont have a recipe per say but I make it pretty much the same each time. I use my magic bullet to make them so the serving is based on one of their cups which is about I dunno, 2.5 cups worth? I usually give about 6oz of it to Nicholas too.

I do about 1.5 cups frozen fruit (I buy the mix from Kroger or Sams, it has grapes, strawberries, pineapple, mango and then I add in my own frozen blueberries & raspberries), 1/2 fresh banana, 1/3 cup plain yogurt, 1/4-1/2 cup milk and blend thoroughly...once blended smooth then I add in about 1/3-1/2 cup or more fresh spinach, 1.5 tablespoons wheat germ, 1.5 tablespoons flax seed meal and sometimes a pinch or two of cinnamon then blend until smooth

If you use frozen fruit then no need for ice-- I've never made one with all fresh fruit so not too sure about that scenario but I would guess that you would need at least a few cubes. HTH!

  • I dont taste the spinach at all-- there is occasionally a little grit from the wheat germ and flax seed meal but that obviously could be left out but I like it for the extra folic acid & fiber since I'm pg.

  • My normal morning one has fresh pineapple, green grapes, kiwi and a banana for fruit as well as a couple big handful's of spinach.  I also had flaxseeds, spirulina, and protein powder to it to make it more of a complete meal.   I usually make enough that it lasts me 2 days.  It doesn't taste quite as good the second day but saves me time at 530 AM!!  Definitely doesn't last any longer than 24 hours though without tasting funky.
