UPDATE: Consistent Pain in Lower Right Abdomen

Hi everyone.  I called my Dr and they think I should be seen.  I have to wait until the office opens in an hour to speak with anyone though :(

For the past 2 days I've been having a pain that is dull and consistent in my lower right abdomen.  At first I thought, Round Ligament Pain, but the fact that it's been so consistent has me thinking otherwise.

I'm thinking it could be a corpus luteal cyst (since I did ovulate from the right and previous u/s showed a cyst on right ovary.)  Perhaps maybe it's leaking or will rupture?

Has anyone else experienced this? Of course I'm just a bit nervous.  Too many weird things can happen to your body when pregnant.

Thanks for listening.

Re: UPDATE: Consistent Pain in Lower Right Abdomen

  • I get a pain there every now and then, but haven't had anything consistent.  I hope all is well with you!

  • Thanks.  I have an appointment later today.  I have a Doppler so I checked in on the baby and all seems well from a heartbeat perspective.  I'm thinking this is just something wrong with me (thank god) and not the baby.

I'm convinced it's a cyst.  But I have been wrong before.

  • I hope everything is okay! Drink lots of water. I'm convinced that that helps a lot of our pregnant lady woes.

  • The AP at my school's wife is a week behind me, and she went in last week with consistent pain/cramping on her left side.  They concluded that she had ovulated from her left ovary, and there was a small cyst there.

Sounds a lot like your symptoms.  They told her it would clear up on its own in a few weeks.

Saying T&Ps for you, keep us posted!!

  • That sounds disconcerting (the constant pain). I am hoping its a normal cyst or something that can be explained by your doctor. I am glad to hear that baby's still heartbeating away. Please update us. (((hugs)))

I have it, my MD confirmed a cyst when he did my first u/s on Friday. Now that he poked at it to measure it, it hurts all the time!

I hope that is what it is. good luck.

  • How low? Not to freak you out, but the appendix is located in that region too. Hopefully it's just something muscular or otherwise minor. Please keep us updated!

This is true, and there are always exceptions, but appendicitis, AFAIK (and I am not a doctor), usually manifests as a generalized stomachache first that then radiates to the lower right.  I'd be surprised if it's appendicitis that started as lower-right abdominal pain.

Anyway, OP, GL with the doctor.  Hope everything is just fine.

  • Don't know if this will help at all, but I just read this article about pelvic pain, don't know if it's consistent with what you're feeling: https://www.parentingweekly.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-symptoms/pelvic-pressure.htm

Around 9 weeks I had cyst-like pain that had me in tears.  My midwife thinks it was a cyst.  Lots of fun!

  • The doctor thinks it's a cyst that might be getting smaller (contracting)...  He said it's not really worth digging around or doing an u/s unless I'm vomitting or having SHARP pain.  I was told to take some Tylenol and call back if it got any worse and not better over the next week.

The upside is I got verification that baby is doing just fine, nice strong and consistent heartbeat, I only gained 1lb since last appt.  :)  And I'm measuring right on track.

The downside is, it was a super FAST appt since they squeezed me in AND my original monthly appt for Thursday has been cancelled since I was seen today.  I have my next appt in 3 weeks.

    Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

  • I'm glad everything is OK with the baby.  I'm sorry you're in pain, I hope it doesn't get any worse and you feel better soon!

I wonder why they had you come in if they didn't do an u/s.

Glad everything is okay with baby though!

Who knows...  I guess it was enough for him to check my cervix and feel around a bit.  And since the baby sounded good....  That's all that mattered?  C'est la vie!
