Question about cereal for daycare

This might be a stupid question, so sorry in advance! :)
If you send cereal for breakfast to daycare, do you send the powder and liquid separately or do you mix them up and send it in a container?

I want to pre-mix it- will it be OK about 2 hours later if refrigerated? Can they just warm it up a little?

Re: Question about cereal for daycare

  • I premix.

My DC will not "make" anything... so everything (food, bottles) is made in the morning.

  • My DC had cereal there that they had donated from other families etc. that they could give DD so we don't have to provide cereal.  They will make that as i don't know how long it lasts but the bottles they want pre-made.  I don't really care, it's one less thing I have to get ready and try to remember in the morning.

  • I think the texture changes the longer it sits premade but as long as it's kept chilled it would be ok.  I pack dry cereal/oatmeal in a divided container and day care adds breastmilk from a bottle to mix the cereal.  Fruit goes in the other side.  Easy to pack!

  • I never used baby cereal, Owen had whole oats from the start and I always make about 3 servings of that at a time and just reheat it - works fine.

  • I was totally wondering about this too.  We started fruits and veggies first and are just now going to start mixing in some multi-grain cereal into the fruit in the morning.  I didn't know how to pack it at all.

I packed the fruit in a bowl with a lid and spoon, the multi-grain cereal in a little baggie, and some of my BM in a separate bottle to be warmed up if needed to add to the fruit/cereal.

I'm wondering now though, if that was a good idea to have it not prepared.

  • I guess it depends on the DC, mine will make if for him. But I give him breakfast in the am, he gets lunch there, I don't give cereal for lunch, he gets vegetables.

  • We just mix the cereal in with the fruit puree and don't always add formula.  I don't bother to refrigerate that because he gets to daycare around 8:30 and eats at 9:30.  If it is a yogurt morning then we put it in the fridge.

We send everything pre-made per daycare's policy.
