We weaned to Similac Sensitive from Alimentum about 2 months ago. With my son we tried soy and other options before going to Alimentum, but with her we didn't. So when her spit up seemed to be more under control with thickening her bottles, we decided to see if Similac Sensitive would work for her in conjunction with Prilosec. It did - there was basically no change in any way (we watched her spit up, her sleep, her bowel movements, etc.) - so we've stuck w/ the sensitive formula.
With my son (also a reflux baby on hypoallergenic formula), we kept him on it until he was a year because our insurance covered it and we had to order it in advance in 3m supplies. By the time we were considering weaning him (6-8m old), we had enough to last us until he was a year and ready to try whole milk. So we just decided to keep him on it, even though I'm pretty sure we could have weaned him from it around 6m (when we weaned from meds).

My DS Is also on Neocate and they will not wean until 12 months. But he Is being followed by GI and nutritionist. They want to keep him on It and wean directly to cows milk ( hoping he can).
LO is on Elecare, another amino acid based prescription formula, and the GI and Pedi refused to consider weaning from it until at least 1 year. At 11.5 months I "challenged" LO with 2 ounces soy milk and waited for a reaction and then 2 weeks later challenged with 2 ounces milk. Based on her reactions (bloating with soy/eczema with milk) we are still on the hypoallergenic formula and will re-challenge at 15 months old.
