Twin carseats --location?

Hi,

I have to start putting out twin's carseats in the car. Do I put the seats right next to each other (one behind the passenger, one in the middle), or do I separate them and put one behind the driver and one behind the passenger?

Thanks

Re: Twin carseats --location?

  • We have our seperated. 1 behind the driver, 1 behind the passenger. It was easiest that way in the beginning because 1. it was easier to get the infant carriers in and out of the car, and 2. my DD (who just sits in a seatbelt) fit better between them then on one side or the other. (when they were born, both our vehicles were 5 seaters so we didn't have another option. now that we have the minivan, they are in the middle row/captain seats, pushed together to make room for my DD to get in and out of the back seat).

  • Ours are in the captain's chairs of the people mover.

  • I wasn't sure about this before delivery so I took the seats to the local police dept. and they installed them for me--one behind the driver's seat, one behind the passenger's seat.

  • It'll depend on your car. In the beginning, we had the seats in the outboard positions. Now that we have a minivan (:sob::) we have one on the driver's side and one in the middle of the second row. We took the passenger side captain's chair out so we could easily access the babies from the 3rd row and so others could easily get into the car.

  • In my Trailblazer, they are separated, but if we ever put them in DH's truck they will be in the middle and behind the passenger seat - otherwise DH would be eating his knees while driving.  But if I'm driving the truck they can be separated.
  • We have one behind the passenger seat and one behind the driver's seat. It just worked out easiest getting them into the car.

  • We have one behind the passenger's seat and one in the middle in our Jeep Cherokee. My husband is really tall and can't fit in the driver's seat with a carseat behind him. I'm sure it would be easier for me to get them in and out if they were separated, but it works for now. We had them installed at the police station, both configurations are completely safe as long as they are installed properly.

  • We've got our Snugrides behind the driver and in the middle position of our 2008 Honda Pilot.  I like this configuration because it leaves room for a passenger behind the front passenger, and allows me to get to the third row, should it be needed.  It's not really that hard to hoist the infant seat into the middle position; I just make sure that the lighter baby gets that spot.
