We are probably going to go with the "snip the tip" method. You just cut a little bit off of the end of the pacifier every few days or every week until it gets too small for them to effectively suck on. Supposedly they then just give it up on their own because it doesn't work anymore. I can't say that it is definitely going to work because I haven't tried it but I think the logic is sound.
If that doesn't work then we are just going to wait until he's old enough to understand the story of the "paci fairy", haha.
I thought about just reducing it for only naps and even using the "snip the tip" method. Then, one day I left the only paci that I could find in the car and I just didn't go get it for bed time. She didn't seem to miss it. Once I saw that she could put herself to sleep without it, I never gave it to her again. I had hyped myself up for it to be way worse than it really was.
