Quick formula question

I know this has to be a stupid question, but we are just now starting to supplement with formula and I have no experience with it. Can I make a bottle now and throw it in the diaper bag to pull out later today while were out, or does it have to be used within 1 hour of making it (I think I heard that somewhere)? TIA!

You have to use it within the hour.

  • If the bottle is made it is good for 2 hours, but it is only good 1 hour if you LO started eating from it. When I go out I always have my water in the bottles pre measured and I use a dispenser where you measure the correct amount of powder. If you are using ready to feed, do you have a cooler?
  • I had a little container that I could keep pre-made formula in to keep it cold while we were out. I did this and pre-made it and used it when she needed/wanted it. I went by the 1-hr rule only after she had started eating it. If it was still cold/not eaten at all, I didn't worry about it.

Enfamil actually makes little packets of powder. I now use those - it is so much easier. One packet makes 4 ounces of formula. I just bring a bottle of water with me and make it on the spot.
