Preemies

temperature?

So my DS was up a lot last night.  He usually sttn (I know I am lucky for that).  He just seemed super uncomfortable.  At first I thought it was his tummy (he has issues with constipation) but then I took him upstairs with me to check his diaper- he felt really warm so I took his temperature.  It was mild underarm it was 99.8 so I forget if you add 1 or add 2 to that.  Anyway, I gave him tylenol and half a bottle.  He sort of went back to sleep- waking every 20-30 min or so.  He did get his 2nd flu shot yesterday but I don't remember him having any kind of reaction to the first one.  He also might be teething.  I know with regular babies you don't worry about a fever until almost 102-103 degrees.  With preemies is it any different? TIA! The tylenol did seem to bring it down.

Re: temperature?

  • Our pedi told us to call if they got a fever of 100.6 or higher, unless they just had their shots, which would account for a fever. My guys are only 11 weeks old though so I think the number differs depending on age.

I would imagine if he had his flu shot and the tylenol brought the temp down, he is fine but you may as well call your pedi to make sure.

  • We were told anything under 101 was okay. Scarlette ran a fever of about 99.7 after her shots and it went away the next day.
