Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month old sleeps only 8/9 hours at night, less than 1 hour nap

I am going insane and so tired. LO goes to bed around 7pm. And by the time 7am rolls around, he has clocked maybe 8 or 9 hours of sleep.  We tried putting him to bed later, but he is tired at 7pm and ready for bed. He just wakes ALL night long.

On top of it, he will never nap more than 20 minutes at a time, and with that, he averages 2 of those mini naps a day. that is it.

We dont let him CIO, but I am feeling pressure from everyone, even doctor, that CIO will be the magic solution. LO will be 5 months next week.

I feel like i work 24 hours a day with 2, twenty minute breaks.  I am so exhausted and just dont know what to do.   LO has dark cirlces and bags under his eyes, in addition to me.

  • We are in the same exact boat!  I work full time and am still getting up all through the night!?  When my little one turns 4 months I am going to do some sleep training.  Progressive waiting, I think!  For me...it's time and will benefit our whole family!!  Good Luck!!

  • I read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and the author recommends putting the baby in bed earlier for the night. It sounds like he's overtired which makes it difficult for him to fall asleep. Try putting the baby to bed at 6:30 or even earlier. When he wakes in the morning put him down for a nap after an hour and a half or so. I know it goes against your judgement, but sleep really begets sleep. Good luck!

  • Where is he sleeping? Is he swaddled? Does he use/take a paci? How do you put him to bed? When does he eat last? Do you have a bedtime routine?

I think we need more info in order to help!
