TMI: Anyone have green discharge?

I brought it up at my ob appointment yesterday, and she blew me off saying it's completely normal, blah blah, and unless it has a strong odor to it there is nothing to worry about.  She refused to do an exam.

I find it hard to believe that discharge this green and thick is normal. It has no odor, but looks really bad. I thought pregnancy discharge was clear or white? Anyone else experience this?

Re: TMI: Anyone have green discharge?

  • Can't believe your OB blew it off! Everything I've read says that isn't normal, pg or not. Sounds like bacterial vaginosis to me, which isn't serious and is pretty common, easily treatable.

  • I have not, but from what I've read green usually indicates some sort of infection?

  • Nope, it actually is normal. I went in a couple of weeks ago for that very reason. The nurse had me worried when I talked to her on the phone and told me to come right in. I thought green= infection too. In this case, it doesn't.

My OB basically told me that "weird things are going to come out of you while you're PG and unless it smells terrible or is chunky like cottage cheese to not worry about it". He gave me a scientific reason, but I can't remember what it was.

I get it every now and then, mostly after sex. But it is in fact normal and nothing to be concerned about.

Everything I'm reading says the same thing. I can't believe she wouldn't even do an exam after I told her my symptoms.

  • I have had intermittent bouts of it. It doesn't smell bad at all. I was told that it was totally normal as long as it doesn't smell bad. It only happens once in awhile.

This. I have had here and there. If it doesn't smell and you are not feeling any discomfort then it is ok. If it doesn't go away and lasts for weeks, then definitely call your doctor again!

  • I had some yellowish/greenish mucous last week when I was really sick with a cold and I figured that since I was taking the recommended Sudafed and Robitussin that I was just producing and expelling more mucous from everywhere... I really haven't had much since.  I would say that if it continues I would keep telling your Dr.

  • I had a few days of it, and like the others said, unless you're experiencing discomfort and/or it has a funky smell, it's fine.  Trust your doctor.

  • I'm surprised she didn't at least take a look.

Bacterial vaginosis can involve green discharge.  BV is a relatively common infection that can be treated easily.  It usually involves a notable odor though, so perhaps that was her indicator that it was nothing to worry about.

  • It definitely has no scent, but is clumpy like with a yeast infection.  But I though yeast infections were white, not green?  Either way, it doesn't at all look normal and just suddenly appeared one day last week.  I have an appt with my midwife in 2 weeks, so I'll bring it up then, esp. since I don't plan on ever again using this ob practice.

Like green snot?   I had it for a day, then it was gone.  I don't have any infections as far as I know. No odor...

I've had BV once and it was the most horrendous experience ever.  Disgusting.  Definitely something you would know if you had in my opinion.

  • I also had it a few weeks ago and doctor said it was normal after she checked and pap was done.

Exactly like that, with no other symptoms. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not.

I have definitely had occasional green snot looking discharge too. No other symptoms, no smell.  I think it is ok.
