BFing and Pooping ?

I know that BF babies can go days without pooping, but when do you intervene and try to get them to poop?  How many days should I wait?

I don't have a helpful answer, I just wanted to say holy goodness your LOs new pic is precious. They are SO cute (which isn't surprising considering your DS1 is adorable!!)

  • OMG I wanna eat them, they are sooo cute, and look so big! It is too funny ho you have a lighter one and a darker one cause mine are the same. Darker hair and eyes and the other is blond hair blue eyes..haha its pretty cool :) But they are toooo cute! How old are they now? :) To answer your question, I heard they can go up to 10 days! But I thought it as formula that made them not go. DS2 was supplementing on similac soy and it made him super constipated poor thing, so I switched him to same formula DS1 is on which is the Similac sensitive for spit up and he poops like a champ! LOL I do breastfeed them though and hey poop fine with the breastmilk :-P

  • Bellasmom...I never would have thought that I would have a baby with a light complexion.  He has blue eyes too.  So we have one with dark hair and brown eyes and one with light hair and blue eyes.  They are so different.

  • I really wouldnt start to worry until you hit 5 days. My middle boy was a terribly irregular pooper... he actually went a couple REALLY long stretches... Like...up to 26 days! We saw Dr's and specialists galore and they found no reason for no poop...  Prior to that, and afterwards he pooped every 4-7 days... That was his 'usual'. Just go with what is normal for your baby... If it reaches the 5 day mark go in and see your dr. Mine told me not to worry about it, but then shortly after that is when the REALLY long stretches started.
  • I had this same concern when DS wasn't pooping as often. I was told it was not a big deal until he hit 7 days without going. He was a 3-5 day pooper.

on another note, I also have one darker baby with brown eyes and one lighter baby with greyish blue.

  • Pedi told us rule of 7s (we are mixing BM with FF). If they go longer than 7 days without one or more than 7 x in 1 day.

  • Also random note the NICU told us to check the temp rectally to help things along.

  • kaitley...my DH is vietnamese so it is something I did not think would happen.  I had come to accept that I would never have a blue eyed baby.  I guess you never know, uh.

  • I only recently heard of this no-bowel movement thing with breastfeeding. My kids go multiple times per day and they're EBF. But when they were first born (maybe 2 weeks old?) DS went 48 hours without pooping and I called the pedi and they had me stimulate his bowels with a q-tip and vaseline. Now, I'm not saying to do that, I'm just saying that at 48 hours it was a cause for concern.

I don't have an answer to your question since I haven't had my babies yet, but I had to comment on this because my DH is Chinese, and my blue eyes are the one thing I wish I could pass down to my kids.  I've been holding on to the fact that my grandkids could get them, so this is interesting to me.  Also, all three of your kids are absolutely adorable!

Yes there is still a chance.  Keep hoping.  And thanks for the compliment.
