Mirena Momma's

I skipped out on my follow up appt to see if it was in place a couple of months ago and every now and then freak that I may be pregnant.  Have you ever had Mirena fall out? Would I know if it came out?

Re: Mirena Momma's

  • I had the Paragard (copper) IUD. Hurt like a mofo going in and coming out. I think I would have been able to tell if it dislodged *shudder*
  • You are supposed to be feeling for the strings once a month.

  • Loading the player...
  • She clipped the strings shorter so they would not irritate me. So, I cannot feel them... I guess I am going to have to suck it up and take the time to go...

  • Unfortunately yes you should probably go get checked (if anything for peace of mind).  I've seen too many migrated or expelled ones!

  • So I have to ask as we're considering this (i refuse to have a period if I'm not having more babies! Lol) Did you all have Mirena AND tubes tied? What about these strings I keep hearing about? Can they be felt during... you know...? :) Sorry if I'm threadjacking...

  • It is just an IUD. It is an in office procedure that doesnt feel great for like 5 minutes, some cramping later. You bleed light spotting for a while after but supposed to be no babies for 5 years unless you take it out. No tubes tied and its not permanant. The strings are there to help the dr (or you) to pull it out if you want to try different BC or get pregnant again. I havent had a so called period but spotting forever but I spotted with all the no period bc's.

  • Right... I guess what I'm asking is this. We're planning on having my tubes tied during the c-section. But the thought of having my tubes tied and knowing I can't get pregnant, but dealing with periods just annoys me :) So I was thinking of the IUD to prevent the periods (I hate the pill, it does strange things to my head), and wasnt sure if anyone else did this? Is the string felt during sex at all???

  • Some people don't have periods while on Mirena (I haven't had one yet but I'm also EBF) but some still get them so it's no guarantee of no periods. My husband cannot feel the strings during sex but the dr can always cut the strings shorter if that is a problem. You are supposed to check the strings once a month to make sure the device is still in but I feel like you would probably feel it coming out. I check my strings frequently anyway because I am so terrified of getting pregnant again. The strings feel more like super fine plastic wire... they are actually somewhat hard to feel.
